I am a classically trained pianist of 17 years with experience in Classical, Pop, Musical Theatre, and Opera music. I studied piano performance in the Preparatory Division at Mannes College for 7 years and studied Theory and Ear Training as well. I worked at Hamilton College as a vocal and instrumental accompanist and as a keyboardist for many musical theatre productions.
As a piano teacher, I want to show students that there is more to piano than just Classical music. I can offer ways to become a better sight reader, how to accompany a singer or instrumental player and to just have fun while making music. While technique is essential to any piano playing, it is not the only part of playing. I want my students to know that piano also does not have to be a solo endeavor. I can teach students that collaboration with other musicians can make playing even more enjoyable.
I also hope to teach my music theory and ear training knowledge to beginning students. Theory is another essential element to piano playing and something that all musicians benefit from. I hope to show students that theory can be fun even though it is something that we all have to learn.
I studied music theory in the Mannes College Preparatory Division for 7 years. As a musician, I know that while music theory is not always fun, it is an essential aspect for piano. I hope to teach students that music theory can be fun and incredibly useful to become a better musician.
I have been playing for over 17 years having taken about 14 years of lessons myself. I have a lot of knowledge to pass on to new students from what I have learned. I also am an accompanist and would hope to teach students how to accompany other musicians. I also want to pass on my love for sight reading and teach students skills to ease the process of sight reading music.
I studied Ear Training for four years in the Preparatory Division at Mannes College. Through this class I learned to sight sing with a numbers system rather than solfege. I gained incredible skills from this method and would love to pass this method on to new students as a different way to learn sight singing.
