I have enjoyed working as a private tutor and homeschool teacher (at the middle and high school levels) with New York City families over the past four years. In terms of credentials, I hold a Masters degree in Secondary Education (English) from Harvard University and am also currently pursuing a Ph.D. in International Education from NYU.

In addition, I bring over ten years of experience teaching in the U.S. and abroad across various subjects and grade levels, including three years teaching high school English Literature, Language Arts, and Creative Writing in Westchester County. My teaching and tutoring experience encompasses the following subjects:

Language and Composition (Essay coaching)
American, World, and European Histories
Math up through Algebra
Spanish up to AP level
Psychology
Biology and Earth Sciences
Sociology

I have also helped various students prepare for high stakes tests, including the ISEE, SSAT, SAT, ACT, and NYS Regents exams, and have also worked individually with families and students to navigate the college and private school admissions process with a specialization in admissions essay coaching.

My diversity of teaching experience has reaffirmed my belief that each student possesses an individualized manner of learning best and that teachers and tutors must work to pinpoint these pathways to lead students in the direction of personal academic success. Having worked with a number of students with learning differences, I have developed strategies to help these alternative learners more effectively access confusing concepts, in turn bolstering their academic confidence.

I always look forward to meeting new students and helping each to meet his/her goals!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

IELTS

I have a master's in English education from Harvard University and also hold a TEFL certification. I have taught English as a foreign language at the college and adult/business English levels and have also prepared many students for the TOEFL exam, which is very similar to the IELTS. In addition, the IELTS focuses primarily on British english, which was the focus of my instruction when I taught English language learners in Spain.

ISEE

I have worked with multiple students in the lower and upper grade levels to prep for ISEE testing for entry to private middle and high schools within New York City. I am able to focus on both the math and verbal sections with my students and train them in strategies for standardized test taking. These include the process of elimination, educated guessing, drawing upon previous knowledge, using context clues, etc. I also provide students with extensive drilling in the typical types of questions that appear on the exam.

Sociology

I am a Ph.D. student in International Education at NYU with a focus on Cultural Sociology in Education. I have TA'd a number of sociology-focused courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including "Cross-Cultural Studies of Socialization" and "Culture Wars in America."
