Adobe Photoshop

I have years of experience editing high definition photos in two dimensions. My project focus has spanned from artistic to technical merit in production values.

Algebra 1

My teaching methodology for Algebra I is divided between study skills coaching and math-help on individual problems. I've found students experiencing difficulty in Algebra 1 are often rushing through problem sets without understanding the question at hand. My method leaves the student focused and dedicated to solving questions, rather than racing to be the first finished.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 presents multi-step problems which many students find more challenging than those posed in previous math courses. Frustration can result when the student spend give seconds looking at a question, and gives up when the answer does not fall from the sky. My teaching methodology for Algebra 2 focuses on developing student comfort in methodical, multi-step, problem solving.

Calculus

I have completed Calculus II, III, & IV at Columbia University, and received the department award for excellence in calculus at my high school. My teaching methodology focuses on conveying the inherent beauty and utility of calculus to the student. The resulting internal motivation enables the student to remain focused during the long hours of practice required to master Calculus.

Macintosh

I am a mechanical engineering major who graduated from Columbia University. I am also an iOS developer, the first application I brought to market launched in spring 2013. All of my work is done on Macintosh computers.

I am intimately familiar with the Macintosh product line, and am aware of the pros and cons of their different systems, for example: Macbook Air vs Macbook Pro.

Lastly, I am an avid fan of the various hotkeys and tricks available to users running OS X, and would love to help students improve their Macintosh skills.

Mechanical Engineering

In 2012 I graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Columbia University.

During 2011, 2012, and 2013 I've worked at a joint research group between Mt. Sinai Medical School and Columbia Mechanical Engineering. The work I've done with this group is being submitted to nature this winter, and I will be 3rd/4th author on the paper.

In addition, I coached a sophomore high school student to a gold medal in his country's national science fair. His project fell firmly within the realm of mechanical engineering, and I continue to mentor him moving into the 2014 science fair season.

Precalculus

I have spent over 500 hours coaching students on precalculus assignments at the pre-college level. In addition, I scored 98% on the final exam for the capstone math class at my high school.

I tailor my teaching strategy to the individual: first identifying whether the pupil is an auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learner; then applying wisdom from my 9+ years of experience in coaching precalculus. This method of education consistently yields positive learning outcomes.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is a stumbling block for many high school students. My teaching methodology focuses on excellence in problem identification; a solving skill set needs to be paired with a corresponding problem in order to produce the correct result.

Writing

I have spent many years honing my personal writing style, and now enjoy helping students find their ideal style. The vast majority of writers use too many words, in part, because many teachers give assignments alongside a certain required word count. My writing guidance focuses on helping the writer distill the ideas which they would like to see on the page, refining these ideas, and ensuring the finalized ideas come through clearly to the reader. I work with writing students age sixteen and older.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
