Hello! I am a former CPS (Chicago Public Schools) teacher. I taught high school math in the public schools for several years, during the infamous CTU strike of 2012, followed by the unprecedented cutbacks of 2013, at which time I lost my job along with thousands of other highly qualified teachers. Instead of getting another CPS job, I spent the following year teaching several ACT preparation courses, which I actually found to be more rewarding. I’ve recently moved to New York to start graduate school at NYU, and I am also working part time as an SAT instructor.

Having been raised by two mathematicians, I feel strongly that everyone has the potential to succeed at mathematics. It is unfortunate that the mathematics curriculum in this country does not inspire creativity, at least not until upper level college courses, and this is one reason many students find math boring and/or inscrutable. It is my passion to help students discover the true beauty of mathematics.

I have years of experience both teaching and tutoring math. I also have experience helping students with writing, and with grammar. I love to help people edit their writing: I have helped many friends polish college/grad school entrance essays, and more recently I helped a professor edit a textbook. As a teacher, I helped a number of my students with both grammar and vocabulary in their essays. I have been writing analytical essays for years and have many useful tips.

I also have extensive experience with standardized test prep. Standardized tests measure exactly one thing: how well a student does on standardized tests. The good news about this is that it is a skill that can be improved, like anything else, and the main trick is to learn how to think like a test maker. Over the years, I’ve developed many strategies to help students accomplish this and improve their scores. I am happy to help students with the SAT, the ACT, and/or the GRE.

In addition to these core subjects, I also have a strong background in music, both performance and theory. I studied music in college, and I play a handful of instruments: piano, clarinet, and voice are my best, and I have some experience giving lessons to young children. I have also sung in many choirs and have directed a few. I currently sing with a female barbershop choir in midtown Manhattan.

Please contact me with any questions. Whatever it is you need, I am always happy to help students reach their full potential.
