Hello, I'm a NYC/ NYS Certified ESL Educator in a NYC public school (grades K-5). I've taught in the elementary public school system for 6+ years, and student-taught prior to my career in both high school and elementary for 1 year (combined experience of 7 years). Prior to my education career, I taught in a private bilingual Korean-English daycare for 2 years (ages ranging from 6 months - 2 years old).

I obtained my master of arts degree (M.A.) at NYU, in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, K-12 & Adults). I graduated with honors from this prestigious program.

I regularly receive the most up-to-date training and professional development on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and am familiar with the NYS elementary curriculum for grades K-5. I am also quite familiar with the NYS ELA and Math Exams as well as the NYS ESL Exam (NYSESLAT, a New York State ESL test from grades K-12). I have also been an official proctor and grader of these state exams as well. I have tutored the NYS ELA exams for grades 3-8, and have tutored test preparation such as the PSAT for grades 6-9.

On the side, I also privately tutor students who range in ages from 5 to 45 in subjects such as ELA, ELA Test Prep, elementary math, Math Test Prep, writing, reading, vocabulary, phonics, ESL and more. I have also taught adults English (ESL) skills, as well as TOEFL test preparation (particularly the writing section) for 2 years.

Most of the subjects covered in tutoring have centered around ESL, English Writing or Test preparation studies. For adults, I have tutored everything in ESL from daily conversational practice, “survival English” and NYC information. I have also helped students with graduate college admissions essays and the writing portion of the TOEFL exam. Of the graduate admissions essays I’ve helped to edit, all three have been accepted into desired prestigious programs such as Yeshiva Law School, George Washington Medical School, and NYU Dental School.

My areas of speciality in tutoring are: elementary (all subjects) K-5, ELA and Math Test Prep, NYSESLAT (ESL Assessment Test), writing essays (K-College), Admission Essays (I have helped 2 friends find acceptance into Law School as well as NYU Dental School), basic ESL for adults, as well as conversational skills, and organization.

Prior to education, I worked in Human Resources for 2 years, so I am familiar with interviewing skills, and basic business English.

I can/ have also tutored basic 'survival' English to newcomers in NYC, and have taught lessons on acclimating to NYC Life (culture, language, transportation, etc.)

I'm a native New Yorker, native of Queens, and am conversant in Korean, and possess a very light knowledge of Mandarin-Chinese (after having taken a few courses in both high school and college). I am in the midst of learning beginner Spanish and French.

I look forward to hearing from you and learning together!
