I am an oil painter with 8 years of experience in oils, and an AmeriCorps teaching alum. I studied International humanities and painting in college, with focuses on modern European history, global literature, and women's issues. I also have a range of coursework in psychology and anthropology.
I have experience teaching art, math, literacy, and homework support. My teaching philosophy involves instilling a love of learning by connecting the subjects to students' interests and making the subjects real for them.
I have experience formally coaching middle school students on early college prep, and informally coaching peers and mentees on choosing colleges and preparing college essays. I have strong writing experience as a former humanities major and frequent writer for college and small publications, and have served as an editorial assistant editing articles and conducting website planning for a career coach. I am prepared to support high school students navigate the college application process and prepare their college admissions essays and personal statements.
I have more than ten years of experience drawing in dry and mixed media, including graphite, charcoal, dry and oil pastel, and pen. I have taught electives in drawing for 6th and 7th grade students as an AmeriCorps teacher.
I am qualified to tutor in painting as an artist with at least 8 years of experience working in oil paints. I have a minor in painting from Washington University in St. Louis, which included an independent studio class with an acclaimed painter; have had drawings and paintings published in student and youth publications; and have taught art to 6th and 7th graders.
