Dear Soon to be student (I hope),

My first experience as a tutor was over 10 years ago, as a student in middle school. Since then, I have worked with students of all ages, from 3 up to 40 years of age, helping them to gain confidence in the academic and professional aspects of their lives One of my main goals as a tutor and teacher is to make a difference in the lives of my students; because they always seem to make an impact in mine as well.

I am a strong believer in the power of education and think that it is important to apply and use what we know and learn each day to become better, wiser and more intelligent individuals. My areas of expertise are in the following subject areas: mathematics, English, reading, writing, public speaking, ESL and bilingual education. In addition to English, I am fluent in French and Spanish. I plan to take the Advanced Spanish DELE exam this summer.

I have a BA in Social Sciences from SJC in NYC, a MA in Bilingual and Multicultural Education from the University of Alcala in Spain, and will start another MA in Human Rights at UCL in London this fall. I taught English at a bilingual school and gave private classes in Madrid for over 12 months last year.

Everyone I meet likes me. I am patient, responsible, organized, trustworthy and kind.

My schedule is very flexible at the moment. I am available to start not just teaching or tutoring, but working WITH you as soon as Monday, June 10th.

SO excited to hear from you and meet you soon.

Best,

Melissa

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a BA in Social Sciences and a MA in Bilingual and Multicultural Education. Last year, I taught Spanish children at the elementary school level English. Before that, I worked at a camp counselor for over 4 summers, mainly with children aged 7-14. Through my experience over the years, I have acquired the necessary skills that allow me to reach each of my students, as it is obvious that everyone learns differently, whether it be visual, tactile, and auditory for example. I enjoy working with this level because they are young and capable of achieving so much. I wish to be a part of their success because I believe in them. I am also patient, reliable, trustworthy, and my previous students and their parents have been quite pleased with my work.
