I strive to be the kind of writing
tutor I would want to work with: seasoned, curious, encouraging, honest, flexible, organized, clear, easy to talk to, fun to work with, attentive to both detail and the big picture, and ready with lessons, tips and inspiration to supplement whatever is happening in your classroom.
The first thing I do is make the task manageable. I know that grammar
and the blank white page can be scary, but I'm ready with ways to get you itchy to write and simple examples to help you understand the logic
behind the rules of grammar. I will also point out the specific spots in the writing that are and are not successful, explain why, provide examples and suggestions, and send you off focused, hopeful and ready to do your best.
In college I was part of a year-long peer-tutoring program and I won a college-wide writing award. I then became a high-school English teacher and then a writer and editor
at many national magazines. I never left my teaching roots. I still love teaching so much that I teach writing in the online program of The Writers Studio and work with many private students on their grammar, expository writing, short stories and essays. I love helping people write more clearly and expressively! I think students respond best when they feel respected and heard and relaxed.

when the writer actively sets out...
