Hello! My name is Kate. I have a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in English Education and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) with Honors conferral from the University of Central Florida, where I graduate Summa Cum Laude and was on the Dean's List. I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Education from Columbia University Teachers College.
I am a certified teacher (English 6-12, Reading and ESOL) with 6 years of teaching experience (pre-K through grade 12). I taught high school English, reading and drama for four years (including Honors, IB, and intensive/remedial courses). I am available to tutor all levels of English language, literature, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, phonics, pre-literacy, reading and writing, including business and professional writing. I can help you prepare for the reading and/or writing portions of the SAT or ACT, as well as state standardized tests. I also taught elementary school for two years, and in addition to all English subjects, I can tutor elementary math and science and beginner-level drama and theater. I have attended numerous professional development training seminars (on subjects such as differentiated instruction, ESL, Marzano instructional strategies, Write Traits, international education, best teaching practices, and balanced literacy) and all of my teacher certifications and licenses are up-to-date.
I am also an experienced musician and can provide flute lessons (through the high school level), as well as sheet music and sight-reading lessons in treble clef. I am CPR/AED/First Aid certified (infant-adult). Contact me today to set up your lessons! I look forward to hearing from you!
I have a BS degree in Education. I taught 3rd grade at English Modern School, a private British school in the Middle East, for two years. During my time there, I taught English, reading, writing, grammar, math, science, and social studies.
I was a member of my school's band from grade 6 to grade 12. I played with the concert orchestra and was first chair flute for 7 years. I also participated in marching band and am adept at reading sheet music in treble clef.
Six years of experience teaching high school, including remedial courses, honors, and IB courses.
My BS degree includes a certification in ESOL, which had a phonics component. I have also completed my reading certification, which also requires demonstrated knowledge of phonics. I taught a remedial reading course in 2007 that also focused heavily on phonics.
I have been teaching for 6 years and have experience speaking in front of groups of students, as well as my peers (other teachers, administrators, etc). I also took a both a public speaking and a speech course while I was getting my undergraduate degree.
I taught in Orange County, Florida, which is an inclusion county, and I had students with special needs in my classes every school year. As teachers, we were required to attend training and professional development on instructional strategies for students with special needs.
I have been teaching for 6 years and have helped students prepare for the SAT, ACT and FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test). I am familiar with current study techniques and have administered many different types of formal tests (including the FCAT). I have also taken numerous formal tests, including the FCAT, SAT, CLAST (College Level Academic Skills Test), TCE (Teacher Certification Exam), and GRE.
I took a theater course while pursuing my BS degree. I also taught Drama I while working as a teacher in the Orange County Public School system. During my undergraduate studies, I also read and researched numerous plays and studied various playwrights.
