Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have completed 36 credits toward my Master's degree in education in special education as well as general education. I am currently working towards finishing my certification. I have taught in special education for 2 years in New York City working with students with various special educational needs including ADD/ADHD issues. Additionally, I have a master's degree in clinical psychology with over 3 years experience of working with various psychological populations of varying ages, providing me with greater insight into how to best help students with learning needs.

Aspergers

I have completed 30 credits toward a Master's degree in education specializing in special education as well as general education. I have worked as a teacher in special education for 2 years, specifically working with elementary aged students in a self contained special education classroom as both a classroom and a cluster (subject) teacher. Many of the students I worked with were classified as on the autism spectrum, including students with Aspergers. Additionally, in my previous work in psychology I worked with people with Aspergers in helping them to develop improved social skills.

Autism

I have completed over 30 credits toward a Master's degree in education specializing in special education as well as general education. Many of the classes I have taken have specifically related to teaching students with autism/Aspergers. I specifically have taught elementary aged students in a self contained special education classroom as both a classroom and a cluster (subject) teacher. I have worked in a District 75 school in NYC in which students were specifically placed due to an autism diagnosis.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have completed 36 credits toward a master's degree in elementary education specializing in special education as well as general education. More than half of the classes I have taken so far in this degree program are geared toward general K-6 education in all subjects. I am currently in the process of working toward finishing this master's degree and gaining dual certification. I have worked as a teacher for two years, having alternate certification in NYS through the Teaching Fellows program. I specifically have taught grades 3-5 students in a self-contained classroom as a classroom teacher and have taught students in grades K-8 as a cluster (subject) teacher. While all of these students were classified as needing special education in one area or another, there was a diverse ability level among all students I have taught in the elementary grades. Some were moving into inclusion studies, others were general assessment students who needed to pass state tests. All students I have taught needed specific instruction at the elementary level to progress to their own best ability.

Proofreading

I have a love of writing and helping others to find greater ease with their writing. While in college and graduate school I began to work with students by helping them to proofread and edit papers on all topics. I continued on to teach writing skills, including proofreading, to students in grade school as they learned how to improve their writing for classes as well as high school and college application essays.

Psychology

I have a strong background and love of the field of psychology which I enjoy sharing with students of all levels in all different areas of psychology. I have both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Psychology. I additionally worked in clinical, testing and research areas of this field for over three years.

Special Needs

I have completed 36 credits toward a master's degree in education specializing in special education as well as general education. Approximately half of the classes I have taken in this degree program so far have specifically related to teaching students with disabilities and/or special needs. I am currently in the process of working toward finishing certification. I have worked as a teacher in special education for two years, having alternate certification in NYS through the Teaching Fellows program. I specifically have taught elementary aged students in a self contained special education classroom as both a classroom and a cluster (subject) teacher. Additionally, in my previous work in psychology I have worked with people with diverse special needs (psychological, physical, and mental) in helping them to develop improved social and life skills.

Study Skills

My combined educational and psychology background allow me to understand a student's specific needs and help work with them to gain their fullest academic potential. I have worked with middle school special education students in standardized assessment to improve study skills toward moving into high school or inclusion education. I have also worked with elementary school students of various ability levels to improve their study skills with goals of grade improvement, working toward inclusion education, and improved comprehension and focus.

Writing

I have a love of writing and helping others to find greater ease with their writing. While in college and graduate school I began to work with adult students to improve their writing skills by assisting them with paper structure, research, outlines, editing and rewriting. I am experienced in all areas of writing for grade school, college and beyond. I enjoy writing and love helping students to create great papers for classes and applications.
