If you are looking for a patient and experienced SAT tutor, you have found one! My composite score on the SAT was a 2280. I attended Duke University and graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in mathematics. In addition to my 200+ hours of tutoring experience via WyzAnt, I work full-time as a SAT and ACT tutor at a highly regarded learning center in Connecticut.
With regard to teaching philosophy, I believe strongly in two ideas. The first is that learning should be a dynamic, two-way process. Most students do not internalize much by simply listening to a teacher or tutor drone on and on. To truly process new material, students must themselves actively participate. I encourage my students to do this not only by having them work through practice problems, but also, for example, by having them "teach back" the concepts that they have learned.
I also believe that it is important to be accessible not only as a teacher, but also as a person. When possible, I try to insert bits of humanity and humor when tutoring standardized tests. After all, small bits of comedic relief can go a long way when studying misplaced modifiers, comma-splice errors, and parallelism. (Believe it or not, there is some humor to be found in standardized test questions.) Creating a rapport with students, whether through humor or sincere investment in their success, is essential for successful learning.
Please feel free to get in touch with any questions or if you would like to discuss a test prep plan for your student.
I scored a 790 on the writing section of the SAT. In college, I took enough writing-intensive philosophy classes to qualify for a philosophy minor at Duke University.
I really enjoy helping students improve their writing. Over the years friends have come to me to proofread and edit their papers, and I've seen their writing improve a lot in the process.
Great 1st Lesson — My son had his first lesson with Dani. It went great. He was efficient. We discussed our goals, he checked to see where my son was having problems and he started working from there. The two of them got along well. I was surprised how much they covered in an hour. Dani is well organized. He made recommendations on how we would effectively track and measure my son's progress. He followed up in a tim ...
