ACT English

ACT can seem tricky at first, but with a few smart tips and some practice you will improve your score dramatically! I will work with you to pinpoint the areas you need to work on and we will focus on those first. I am confident that I can help you to improve your skills and get the results you want!

ACT Science

Science, on this test, is more about reading comprehension and understanding how to interpret graphs than it is about your knowledge of the sciences. It is not difficult once you realize what you are being asked. I will help you learn what to look for and how to interpret the graphs with ease.

Biology

I have taught high school biology for many years. I was the founding teacher of the High School for Environmental Studies where I taught this subject for 10 years.

Ecology

In 2006 I graduated with a second masters degree from Columbia University in Conservation Biology. Ecology is one aspect of this area of study and integral to all of the work that we do as conservation biologists. I later went on to open my own high school, The Academy for Conservation and the Environment in Brooklyn NY.

Elementary Science

I am certified (NY State) to teach Earth Science and Biology in middle and high school. I know the subject matter for the grade schools as well, as it is simply a watered down version of what the students are taught in the higher grades. Previously in my teaching career I taught science grades K-4.

English

I will help you with the skills you need to strengthen to become a better writer, a more effective reader, a clearer communicator and a more confident test taker. All levels, from grade school to adult, essays to business plans.

Grammar

Whether you are studying for an SAT, writing a business report, or just want to be a better all-around writer, grammar counts! Make sure you write right and make it count for you. Topics range from parts of speech and sentence structure to punctuation and other mechanics of writing.

Regents

Living Environment and Earth Science: I have been teaching Regents Earth Science, Environmental Science, and Living Environment Regents for many years. I am certified by NYS as a Biology and an Earth Science Teacher and have been since 1992.

I have an excellent track record helping students understand difficult concepts, and will be able to help your child do well on these required state exams. I guarantee success.

SAT Writing

SAT writing is very specific in its requirements. I will teach you both the specific skills on which you are going to be tested AND tips and 'tricks' that are easy to use to help you to answer even the most challenging questions.

Vocabulary

We will work to increase your vocabulary, insure that you are using words correctly, and learn how to communicate more effectively. If you are studying for a the SAT or other exam we will work on how to use the vocabulary you know to help you increase your test scores. The better able you are to use language in speaking and writing, the more likely you are to do well in school as well as in your chosen career.

Writing

I work with children and adults, of all ages and abilities, on many different aspects of writing. Whether it is to do better in school, prepare for an ELA exam or SAT, write a college essay, edit a college paper or blog, or prepare a business document, I will help you improve your skills. Your confidence in your writing will increase, as will your ability to express yourself clearly and effectively. So if you struggle with writing, or simply want to reach the next level of your performance, I will work with you (or your child) to achieve your desired goals.
