Genetics

I graduated with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Delhi before moving to the US to start my second undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at Washington State University. During my undergraduate education I took courses in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Microbiology, Physiology and Endocrinology among many others. I recently started working on my Ph.D. at Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences and have taken a Ph.D. level course in Molecular Genetics as well.

My understanding of genetics goes beyond the basic module of 'Mendelian Genetics' that is taught in high school and colleges. My expertise is not merely theoretical as I have not only studied the subject at different points in my academic path but have also worked in labs across the country-National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, MD), Washington State University (Pullman, WA), Memorial Sloan Kettering (NY, NY), Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (New Delhi, India)-where the principles of genetics were applied by me on a daily basis for research purposes.

With my strong academic credentials and research experience in bio-medical sciences I am the ideal tutor for anyone interested in learning more about the field. Be it for a high school, an undergraduate or even a Masters student, I can provide you with a theoretical, technical or applied perspective with regards to the field in the simplest possible fashion.

If you want to know more about my background and my understanding of genetics then drop me a line and I will provide answer to any of your queries.

MCAT

The Medical College Admission Test tests proficiency in Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Verbal Reasoning and Writing based on the standard undergraduate level of understanding of these fields.

Having personally taken the test twice and having gone through a test-prep course through 'The Princeton Review', I am familiar with the idiosyncrasies of the the test and what it takes to do well on it. My own composite score in 2009 was 34Q (12PS, 11BS and 11VR). This score was a marked improvement from where I was in 2008 when I scored a 28S (7PS, 12BS, 9VR) and offers you proof that I figured out my weakness and worked on it the right way for a 6 point increase.

With a Solid fundamental understanding of the sciences through my undergraduate course work and knowledge of the tricks and techniques that people employ on the test to do well on the verbal section, I am the perfect tutor for the MCAT. I am an Immunology Ph.D. student in New York City and my ongoing academic path also helps me stay in touch with a fair number of concepts that are tested on the MCAT.

My teaching style for the MCAT is different from the way I teach other courses. This is because at the end of the day a standardized test is a different ball game altogether and to score well an applicant must have a strong strategy in place on top of mastering the fairly copious amount of knowledge. I will help you with timing strategies that fit well with your style of studying. I will also help you build on your strengths to figure out the best way possible to tackle the questions on the exam.

If you're interested, drop me a line and I can send you a copy of my official MCAT scores along with more information about myself.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
