Hello!

Welcome to my profile. My name is Elizabeth and I am currently a Sociology PhD candidate in NYC. Before moving to New York I graduated cum laude from the University of Richmond, Virginia, where I majored in Sociology and minored in Biology and Philosophy.

I have been an adjunct professor in the New York/New Jersey area for four years. My field of study is Sociology and I have taught Statistics, Research Methods, Intro to Sociology, Sex and Gender and Marriage and Family. I am a patient and effective professor and alter my teaching style to meet the learning needs of my students. In addition to teaching, I have tutored students in statistics for the past six years and have worked with students on writing/editing skills outside of the classroom. While I have worked primarily with college level students of all ages I am eager to work with students in high school as well.

My areas of expertise are the Social Sciences, Writing and Statistics. I believe my approach to education will make me an asset as your tutor. I understand that students approach their classes and coursework in a variety of ways. In order to master the subject I aim to make my students comfortable in the material and to build their confidence with each session.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

As a professor I spend ample time in front of a crowd speaking. This role did not always come naturally to me so I understand that people need to work at becoming comfortable in front of a crowd and also need to learn how to construct speeches that hold people's attention. I can help you with putting your thoughts together in a logical manner, writing a speech that flows and pleases the audience, and with practicing your oratory skills.

Sociology

Sociology broadly deals with the study of social behavior by examining the history of social life, groups, organizations and institutions. Within the discipline of sociology I focus on the intersections of race, class and gender, sociology of the body and reproduction, and social class and stratification. I have worked as an adjunct professor in sociology for the past four years and have taught courses on marriage and family, sex and gender, research methods and intro to sociology. I am strong at critical analysis and integration of concepts and ideas. I have written many research papers and also have experience with putting together research proposals.

Statistics

My experience with stats includes basic descriptive statistics, probability theory, sampling techniques, hypothesis testing, linear correlation and regression, non-parametric tests of significance, ANOVA, etc. I am familiar with SPSS and am also well versed in research methods and constructing research projects from conceptualization to analysis.

Highly Recommend! — Liz helped me with several of my college papers for sociology and psychology. She is very informative about sociology and writing in general. She helped me conceptualize, outline and write them. I got A’s on all the papers she helped me with. I am very pleased! Thanks Liz! ...
