THE ART OF TEACHING IS THE ART OF FACILITATING DISCOVERY, someone said once.
I fully agree- more often than not, 50% of my job is to let you know that I am here, and to hold the space for you to access what you already know. The other 50% is knowing how to communicate my language, music or other craft in a way that will permeate your brain seamlessly.
Originally from Spain, I grew up bilingual (Spanish/Basque). I graduated in Social Studies and Audiovisual Communication, and in Classical Piano, before moving to NYC in 2001. I also hold a professional certificate in Arts Administration from NYU and am currently enrolled in the Integrative Sound Healing Practitioner certificate program at the Sound and Music Institute.
I LOVE teaching just as much as I love music and languages, which are not so far apart in terms of the parts of the brain that they use. I have been teaching Spanish to adults and children for the last year at a wonderful school called Fluent City. Before then, I tutored and taught privately. I have also worked with teenagers as director of TeenARTS, the Harlem School of the Arts' teens summer camp, and currently support the learning process of 5 to 11 years old children at one of the YMCA's after school programs.
Aside of my teaching experience, I am also an experienced translator and interpreter.
Why do I like tutoring? Because it is a very rewarding setting for teachers, since it allows us to really cater to the needs and goals of the individual student.

I have successfully tutored K-6 children on all subjects, including reading and writing, math, Spanish, study skills and ESL, in the setting of an after-school program. I am now excited to bring that experience to your home through WyzAnt, and to support your child not only in his or her learning process, but also in building the self-confidence they will so love to have as they grow into young adults.
Special rates and packages can be arranged for everyday tutoring needs or families with more than one child.
There is something to be said about learning a language piece by piece, through deconstructing its syntax, studying its grammar and contrasting its inner logic with how other languages function.
I learned English as a second language yet I have become a favorite English homework helper with many of the 5-11 year old children I've worked with in after school settings.
Get in touch and I'll be sure to support you or your child to prepare ELA tests and through whichever other challenges you may be facing.
"If you cannot teach me to fly, teach me to sing." ...Sir James Matthew Barrie
I am a conservatory graduate in Classical Piano, I sing and play some guitar and electric bass. Knowledgeable in music theory, music history, the evolution of tuning and both classical and more modern repertoires, I truly enjoy teaching music to children and youth. As I am currently enrolled in the Sound and Music Institute's Sound Healer Practitioner Training, my approach to teaching music incorporates rather ground-breaking and holistic sound practices that add tools for Joy and Self-Care to everything else that I teach. Piano technique without true joy for playing wouldn't get us far, would it?
I teach all levels of Spanish in different settings, to students 6 to 60 years old. I am also an experienced art educator and homework helper with youth aged 5-17, and I have a truly solid syllabus and great supporting materials that have proven truly efficient in helping students integrate Spanish seamlessly.
Drop a line if you have any questions!
Everybody has study skills, and finding which those are is linked to knowing yourself. Do you remember things better when they're spoken to you? Do you focus and retain information best when there's a particular rhythm in the background? Do big pictures and drawings full of color stick in your mind?
With some support and guidance, you can find your own voice in what regards information and expression 'intake', and navigate your student years with ease.
As a musician and Sound Healing Practitioner trainee, I will provide you with alternative sound based tools that will help you stay grounded under pressure and bring your attention back to the task at hand. Those tools, together with other traditional and efficient study skills improving practices, will definitely get you in a sustainable great shape for life.
