I am a current Columbia University MFA Screenwriting student, but I also have a degree in Broadcast Journalism, 5+ years experience working with children and young adults of all ages as sports and fitness counselor, football instructor, and life skills coach. I am a former Americorps member, a YMCA mentor and I have also worked as a teambuilding specialist, football trainer and ropes course facilitator for Harlem Children's Zone. I currently serve as a Columbia Admissions Fellow. I have led several filmmaking workshops for elementary, high school and undergraduate students.

Through my academic study and work with the New York Times, The Academy of TV Arts and Sciences, CBS and others I have gathered excellent skills proofreading for applications and admissions essays and academic essays. I am offering creative tutoring in script revision, narrative filmmaking -- screenwriting and directing, basic nonlinear film editing (Final Cut Pro), football skills and public speaking/group engagement.

ACT Reading

As a veteran of the Chicago Public School system myself, I am very familiar with the ACT and it's challenges. I scored a 27 as a high school student (30 in Reading, math dragged me down...). Now, as a tutor, teacher and mentor for dozens of non-profits and NYC schools, I am well equipped to discuss the test environment, best practices and tips, strategic thinking and reading and a lot more.

I will do what it takes to help your child excel on this portion of the exam.

I have been a writer for most of my life and English (my first language) has become second nature.

Through work for media organizations like the New York Times, CBS, National Geographic and Discovery Channel, I have studied and practiced the intricacies of the language.

As a writer, director, and actor, nothing has been more useful than syntax and I have been very successful as a result. I have written plays, essays, and web articles, edited books, screenplays and application essays and had my work reviewed and approved by some of the best and brightest wordsmiths in the field.

I would like the chance to help you embrace the magic of language as I have.

I have been writing dramatically for half my life and directing for nearly as long.

I am a screen and television writer in my final credited semester at Columbia University as a concentrate in screenwriting. I have written original and adapted screenplays, stage plays, and television spec scripts.

I have worked on dozens of short films in positions ranging from director to caterer so I know my way around a set. I am a former Academy of TV Arts and Sciences Intern and have worked with media giants like CBS, The New York Times and the Scripps Howard Foundation. I was even blessed enough to study Italian Neorealist and Giallo film in Northern Italy.

I've designed and facilitated workshops for children and young adults in writing, directing and acting in films.

Film-- writing, directing and watching, is my life... I'd love to share that enthusiasm with your student!

I'm a former player at the high school level as part of a record setting defensive team and a consistent intramural player.

I have designed and led football workshops for children and young adults with and without special needs for two different prominent non-profit organizations, Harlem Children's Zone, and Ramapo for Children. I have also assisted in coordinating and running flag football tournaments.

I currently teach a few small programs for children in flag football, but I would be happy to help out with an individual or group looking to sharpen or gain abilities in wide receiver or defensive back position specific skills.

Public Speaking

I have spent much of my professional and academic career public speaking.

As a teambuilding facilitator, summer camp supervisor, and athletics camp counselor, I have amassed thousands of hours learning the subtleties of engaging and entertaining a crowd.

As an artist; a director and actor, I have spent much of my life on stage or communicating to crowds of people, that I have never met. I have become something of an un-official expert on applications and interview processes for anything from Ivy League schools to Fortune 500 media conglomerate with great personal success. My day to day work sees me communicating with children, parents, teachers, community leaders, social workers, film crews and audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

I can teach you how to make yourself memorable and deliver your message in a confident, effective, exciting way.

As a writer (Columbia University MFA Screenwriting), words are indispensable to me. I have written for dozens of mediums with all types of content. In my tutoring and teaching efforts, I have helped students of all ages and backgrounds increase their comprehension and develop their own love for written word. In a one on one setting, I will help your student learn to analyze and retain main ideas and find their own steps to reach their reading goals.

I am a film writer and director by trade and education, but I began my dramatic studies on the stage.

I've acted (in commercials at a young age, on University stages), written and directed for the stage. I am a Columbia Film MFA student and I have studied the roots of modern drama in the Greek, Roman, and English theatres.

My dramatic writing extends to over a dozen short films, and several screenplays and I have extensive experience working with actors on original materiel and re-producing the works of master dramatists like Tenessee Williams, Shakespeare, and I've even dabbled in the musical form (though you shouldn't ask me to sing).

In short, give me a stage, an actor and a story and we can make it interesting.

Video Production

Video production is second nature for me when it comes to working with students. Having created and run several workshops for students in short filmmaking, I understand the practical and creative demands for small video projects.

I worked in post production for a small indie production company doing projects with National Geographic and Discovery Channel, so I understand the realities of basic video editing especially for consumer-level production equipment and beginning videomakers.

Through my work as a video journalist with the New York Times Journalism Institute, my work on election news coverage which aired nationally on Dan Rather's HD Net new's program as well as my own experiments in short form documentary at Hampton University and Georgia Tech, I learned the structure and precise details that make a good video piece into a phenomenal one.

I am a filmmaker and a storyteller and I can help you do both, better.

As a writer, I've had the pleasure of learning from the best and brightest. Those rare opportunities have led me to a lot of personal success.

I've written for several websites, worked with New York Times, and CBS Journalists, penned several dramatic works on my own (plays, monologues, films), and I am currently studying the screenplay form at Columbia University's School of the Arts.

I'd love to pass along my knowledge and experience to you. Together we can meet your writing goals.
