I have a B.A. in Biology with a Chemistry minor, and am working towards a graduate degree. I have a background in biomedical science, clinical health (CPR/AED certified), and teenage outreach. My goal is to make the material interesting and easy to learn through analogies, acronyms, everyday associations, and self-prepared notes and review sheets.

My past experiences include SYEP, private volunteer and paid sessions, Adult literacy, among others. I started off tutoring with children ages 5+ in Math and English through Summer Youth Employment Program. After that, I advanced to volunteer tutoring, and then part-time private tutoring. Now, I tutor full-time.

I mainly tutor ages 10-21+ (due to the topics covered) but I've worked with younger children and elderly with great success. I cover all Regents, AP, SAT, ACT, pre-med Math and Science, and ESL/ESOL. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I graduated college with a B.A. in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry. I mainly tutor introductory Biology.

Chinese

I am Asian American. I have learned Chinese in Chinese school for a period of time over the course of my life and can tutor people in the basics of Chinese (speech, writing, etc.). I continue to expand my vocabulary daily with exposure to Asian culture. I also have basic Chinese calligraphy experience.

Elementary (K-6th)

During my time at SYEP, I had the opportunity to tutor a wide range of students of various ages in English and Math including those in elementary school. I also have volunteered in underserved communities as a part of an after-school project under Weill Cornell and NYC volunteer non-profit. Also, having gone through elementary school myself in NY, I know what to expect when tutoring. English is my native language.

Proofreading

I've taken writing intensive courses in college and did well in all classes. I've also written for multiple publications of different interest over the years.

Regents

I voluntarily tutored most forms of Regents in high school required by NYS on and off. These include Math A, Math B, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, US History, World History, and Spanish, among others. I passed all of my Regents with distinction.

Study Skills

Study skills are the basis for any learning experience. Each student is unique and I can work with students to build their own way of studying. As an experienced tutor outside of WyzAnt, I've developed various techniques to make studying easier.

Volleyball

I am currently on an amateur volleyball team to play for student competitions, and helped form a volleyball club at my college. I've played volleyball for at least 4 years. I am an Intermediate level player. I can coach basic skills and practice to improve both my and your skills. My goal is to network with fellow volleyball players so most likely I would waive all fees.
