Hi,

I was born and educated in the US, and taught English in Germany for three years (sprachcenter.com). I also performed and taught music to adults and children on and off for ten years, which helped me integrate an emotional element into my pedagogy. Otherwise, you can expect pretty a traditional lesson from me. We'll start at the point where you know everything (review), and develop from there, with some kind of test or quiz at the end. We'll use whatever materials you have to prepare for your particular goal or test. Don't be afraid of contacting me about about any further questions or concerns that this profile may not be able to answer.

Cheers,

Monica G.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

Math should be something fun and imagination-stirring. In order to make things understandable, I like to make as many connections as possible between the material and abstract information.

English

I am a native American, and have always done well with grammar. I taught English to German kids for three years, and I've given many private lessons. You will get a well rounded and deep sense of the language!

German

I spent the last eight years in Berlin, Germany, acting and singing professionally in German. I have lived the language, and would love to share some of my experiences, and build new ones with you.

Reading

I like to approach reading theatrically; exercising reading out loud in order to physically, emotionally, and intellectually connect to what is on the page.

Spanish

As you can see in my name, my parents are Spanish; Spanish from Spain. I have sung and acted professionally in Spanish. I will give you a well-rounded and passion-packed vision of the language! Don't worry; I won't make you roll your r's if you can't.

Voice (Music)

I'm a performing artist and music teacher. I received my Bachelors and Masters degree in music at Boston's New England Conservatory, where I was a member of the jazz, classical, and third-stream departments. I also spent 8 years in Berlin, Germany, singing opera and performing in musical theater. I've always enjoyed working with kids, especially introducing them to music through piano, language, movement, role-playing, and singing. But I also thrive teaching adults, whether it be professional singers looking for some tips, or passionate hobby singers looking to impress their friends at the next karaoke party.
