Hi, my name is Joe. I have a pretty interesting background in writing (both fiction and non-fiction), journalism and popular culture. My work's appeared on television, the internet, in daily and weekly mainstream newspapers and trade publications. I've also done a lot of hands-on work in the visual arts - graphic design/Photoshop, cartooning and life drawing.

I can help you excel in any of these fields: teach you how to be your own best editor (and toughest critic) when you write, guide you through modern and classic literature, help you master Photoshop or learn the cultural, economic and technological history and evolution of mass media. You'll find me accessible, open-minded and always encouraging - offering positive reinforcement, pointing out your strengths and helping you master the areas you find the most challenging.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Writing

I have written for a wide variety of media (print, online, and television) for both specialized and general-interest audiences.

I'm particularly proud of writing in any number of 'voices' depending on where my work will appear and who will be reading it: popular and easy-going for general audiences, informative yet engaging for business and trade pubications, and downright silly for animation and children's literature.

I've interviewed dozens of people in all walks of life in the course of my work. This experience, combined with my outgoing personality, makes it easy for me to establish a comfort level and a good working relationship with almost everyone. I enjoy putting words together and can help others learn how to do the same.

Valuable Tutor — Joseph brings real value to WyzAnt. I am glad he can be reached here. I had a college literature paper due in 72 hours. Joseph answered right away. When he reviewed my writing he saw that it lacked command. He pointed out problems with the document. I corrected it. As a result, I received an "A" for the semester, maintained my GPA and the Professor asked to keep the essay to share with futu ...
