Composition (Music)

Randy is an award winning composer/pianist and educator. Winner of 2 Gold Records, 4 Emmy Awards, USA Song Contest – Best Song – Jazz Category. Winner of Jerry Harrington Award for Musical Theatre composition. Teaching experience includes: Berklee College of Music, University of Kansas – Simons Fellowship. He has 30 plus year experience in the music business and has written over 1000 songs. He is a member of Dramatists Guild, BMI, NARAS, and an exclusive Steinway Artist.

Music Composition - from basic understanding of melody, harmony and rhythm to advanced concepts of breaking musical composition rules. Music Composition is an individual study and the work in this is custom designed based on the music and requests of the student for specific information.

Ear Training

I taught ear training at the Berklee College of Music for 4 years. I currently teach ear training as part of every private lesson that I give. It is an essential part of all music lessons. I have been teaching ear training for the last 7 years.

Part of the learning process in music is developing the inner ear. This is the mechanism that feels the music inside and can help a player/musician sing it or play it back. If you can't hear it, you can't play it. My method for developing the ear is based on first, discovering what musical elements are giving the student the most difficulty to hear and then creating original exercises that include the problems until they become friendly and part of the student's listening vocabulary.

General Music

Randy is an award winning composer/pianist and educator. Winner of 2 Gold Records, 4 Emmy Awards, USA Song Contest – Best Song – Jazz Category. Winner of Jerry Harrington Award for Musical Theatre composition. Teaching experience includes: Berklee College of Music, University of Kansas – Simons Fellowship. He has 30 plus year experience in the music business and has written over 1000 songs. He is a member of Dramatists Guild, BMI, NARAS, and an exclusive Steinway Artist.

General Music - from basic understanding of melody, harmony and rhythm to advanced concepts of breaking musical composition rules. General Music study is individual to the student and the work in this is custom designed based on the music and requests of the student for specific information.

Music Production

I have been producing recordings for over 30 years. I have worked in all aspects of the craft from arranging music, to recording instruments, to working with midi and sequencers. I have also mixed and mastered hundreds of recordings from demos to fully released project. My company has worked with major distributors and I am completely experienced in the process of releasing a recording to the general public. This is my area of expertise.

Piano

Piano Improvisation - find your original voice, learn about the colors of the instrument and infinite palate that you can explore.

Randy Klein is an award winning composer/pianist and educator. Winner of 2 Gold Records, 4 Emmy Awards, USA Song Contest – Best Song – Jazz Category. He has numerous piano improvisation CDs released worldwide. Teaching experience includes: Berklee College of Music, University of Kansas – Simons Fellowship. He is a member of Dramatists Guild, BMI, NARAS, and an exclusive Steinway Artist. His years of exploring the world of improvisation can enhance your experience as a pianist.

Because music is an intangible form, it has to be taught with this understanding. We hear and feel music. It is also quite an individual art form and has to be taught with this concept in mind. If you are an improvising musician, please consider Randy's teaching services.

Songwriting

Randy is an award winning composer/pianist and educator. Winner of 2 Gold Records, 4 Emmy Awards, USA Song Contest – Best Song – Jazz Category. Winner of Jerry Harrington Award for Musical Theatre composition. Teaching experience includes: Berklee College of Music, SongU.com (active coach), University of Kansas – Simons Fellowship. He has 30 plus year experience in the music business and has written over 1000 songs. He is a member of Dramatists Guild, BMI, NARAS, and an exclusive Steinway Artist.

Songwriting - This course of study is based on the song that the student presents for evaluation. From this song, concepts are learned about songwriting which filter to the next song the student will write. The basic thought is the art of writing is re-writing. In songwriting, the more you do it, the better you get at it. It is also a completely individual art form that explores the original voice of the student.
