After excelling in high school French
classes and placing sixth nationally/second in the state of Georgia on the National French Exam, I continued to study French in college, where I majored in French and English
, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. I then earned a Master's in French from Middlebury College, which is regarded as the gold standard for foreign language
instruction in the United States. For grad school I spent one semester studying French in a full immersion environment followed by a year in Paris, where I studied French literature
, politics, and writing
, including upper-level coursework at the Sorbonne with French students.
I am fluent in French and, as a native English speaker who excelled in high school, college, and graduate French classes, I understand the challenges that students face when learning a foreign language
. I identify with my students and can pass on helpful tips I developed while learning French myself. I am very experienced tutoring grammar, as well as facilitating French conversation, fine-tuning pronunciation, and using new vocabulary
I work well with children and adults, ranging from young children just starting out to adults who want to practice conversation before heading to France on vacation. I work particularly well with high school and college students at the intermediate level who are struggling with the more advanced grammar they learn in their third French course. I also work well with students preparing for the AP French
I am based in Brooklyn but happy to meet wherever is convenient to you.
