I am a graduate of Stuyvesant High School and Columbia University with a B.A. in Biophysics and a concentration in pre-medical sciences. I am currently pursuing a doctorate M.D. degree at Northwestern University. Over the past few years, I have tutored many students in the subjects of college mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and verbal. I have focused both on tutoring class subjects as well as preparing students for PSAT/SAT/MCAT standardized tests. I have also taught several intensive preparation classes for the SHSAT (Specialized High School Admissions Test). In addition to maths and sciences, I have also trained two graduate students in MATLAB programming. My other interests include tennis, astronomy, astrophotography, and general photography.

I have been tutoring students for approximately eight years now in the subjects mentioned above. My method of teaching can be broken down to just one word - fundamentals. The fundamentals of each subject are crucial, invaluable, necessary, and vital for understanding the subject. Without a strong grasp of the core principles, the beauty of the subject matter goes unnoticed... and without an appreciation of the beauty of the concept, we fail to learn the concept in itself. I appreciate a guided tutoring approach which focuses on making sure the student understands the concepts presented in each question. Anyone can get a question right - but getting the concept right is a far more difficult task.

Practically speaking, I let the student explore the subject and teach me what they know first. Then I present a thorough content-review making sure to ask questions to keep the student engaged. Finally, I present various application questions so we can determine what we need to focus on next. I also really like to ask challenging conceptual questions to see if the student can get at those "AHA" moments that we all thrive for in the field of mathematics and science because in the end... this stuff is cool no matter how challenging. Students like working with me because I am very easy to approach and can relate to them. I am not too far removed from my high school days and can easily relate to the coursework, the homeworks, the stressors of high school and college, extracurriculars, and everything else that defines the teenage and young-adult years.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hindi

I studied Hindi for Heritage Speakers at Columbia University for a year. I can read/write and communicate in Hindi. I am of Indian origin as well.

MATLAB

I've successfully completed a introduction to MATLAB course at Columbia University. I have also written various MATLAB programs to conduct biophysical analysis of brain cancer cells for my research work. In the past I have taught two psychology graduate students MATLAB.

MCAT

I have taken the MCATs in 2011 and am currently an MD candidate (expected date of graduation 2016) at Northwestern University. I have successfully taught other students MCAT specific physics, biology, and chemistry courses. My educational background with a major in Biophysics, pre-medical concentration, and especially with two years completed in medical school informs me well of the rigors of the MCAT curriculum.

Physics

I took Physics C Mechanics and E/M AP in high school and scored a 5 in both.

I took Accelerated Physics, Quantum Physics, Electrodynamics, and various other physics courses at Columbia University in pursuit of my Biophysics major.
