Are you nervous about using a computer? Not sure of all those things people are talking about when they talk about the computer using words like "apps", "OS" and other fancy sounding names? Then I am the one who will help you sort it out, simply & without 'techy-sounding' computer geek terms that can be confusing for everyday folks to understand.

You don't have to be a nerd, geek, or worry about being too old, or too young (but prefer to tutor students over 18 years old)... everyone can learn how to use the computer to type a letter, send a picture in an email, or put a favorite CD on the computer. If you have family members who are saying to you "..if you had email, you would see more pictures of us..." but you don't know where to begin, contact me.

I have helped many people improve their computer skills during my employ as a Receptionist Supervisor. Having to work with a group of people of varying ages, backgrounds, levels of knowledge was indeed a challenge, but successfully showing them how to be more productive was a great experience. Not only did they realize there was more to the computer than online games, but their abilities to use Word saved them time in typing letters and creating other documents. One person was still using a typewriter - but after a few lessons, he saw the benefit and ease the PC gave him to create letters more professionally. I even showed him how to send photographs using email and explained how to safely navigate the Internet.

There are only 4 things that I require of anyone I tutor:
1) You have to have a PC (Windows) computer/laptop.
2) Be willing to learn - I can teach almost anyone, except the "I know" person, so if you know it already, then please choose another tutor.
3) Practice - if you are not practicing, how are you going to be good at it?
4) Have fun with the skills that you are learning, and be prepared to not even remember the time when you couldn't do it!

When you explain what you want to accomplish, you will have to meet that deadline - homework and/or quizzes may be given to see if you are really practicing... not the traditional kind of quiz, but a hands-on 'do it' quiz/homework. So if you want to learn without all of that technical-talk, I'm the tutor for you... NYC area only please. All lessons are conducted in English.

General Computer

How to navigate using the computer. What the names of the things are. Knowing what is software. Understanding the Internet, how to connect; what is Wi-Fi? Learning the basics of how to create an email including setting up a free email address (if you don't already have one).

Grammar

I have always excelled in proper grammar usage throughout my educational career. I never received a grade lower than A in college level English courses.

I have a passion for insuring that proper grammar is used at all times in order to be understood clearly. Two, too and to have different meanings and are not interchangeable..I will help the learner to understand which one to use when, without being a witch about it.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using MS Window's operating systems since Windows 95. I am constantly updating my knowledge in any news on improvements or changes in the Windows OS.

The basic foundation of using the WinOS hasn't really changed, but the additional features in the later OS' (Vista, 7) have features that end users love. The new Aeros for personalizing the desktop, the redesigned look of the control panel, and the customizable ribbon of all of the Office Suite programs make it easier than prior OS' makes it more convenient to use and easier for people to learn and make their PC experience unique to their own computing habits.

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is part of the Microsoft Office Suite. It is a word processing software program allowing the user to create documents which were formally typed on a typewriter in the past. Resumes, term papers, class notes are among the many documents that can be created. Pictures can be included in the documents, but motion images (i.e. video clips, animations, etc..)can not be put into a Word document. Microsoft word is available for PC (Windows) and Mac (iOS) computers.

Writing

I have graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2010. The lowest grade I received in English, Literature, and all other writing related classes was an A-. I have always been an excellent writer, and have been hired as a writer. The secret of good writing is having good notes, understanding how to put your story in order, and reading your copy aloud to see how it sounds to you (or in front of unbiased friends/family if possible).
