Hi! My name is Karen D., I am 19 years old, and I live in New York City. I am a sophomore at Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Hunter College. My major is education, and my future ambitions are to get a Master's Degree at Columbia Teacher's College and become a certified special education teacher!
Now comes the fun stuff:
I grew up in a suburban town in Long Island, but I am super appreciative and happy that I can go to college in New York City. So much to do, to see, to explore, to take in and learn from! I love peanut butter, snowboarding, yoga
, creative writing
, volunteering, and most of all, I love teaching. I have taught English
overseas, have worked with children from first grade
to high school on whatever areas they need help in, and have privately tutored middle-schoolers.
While doctors are healers of the body, I truly believe that teachers are healers of the mind and heart. As people that are with children all the time, we are one of the most direct influences on children during one of the most important times: their childhood. Hence, it is incredibly easy to shape or change a child's life. It is even more important to shape the life towards something beautiful and positive, something children can draw upon as they grow older and develop. Teachers are shaping the future of society.
Children with beautiful hearts and minds, equipped with the knowledge and intelligence to make changes and improve society, can make a difference no matter the amount of chaos in the world. Thus, I take my future and ambitions as a teacher very seriously.
Thank you, and I look forward to working with you!
