I am a certified ESL
Teacher and recently completed a Master's Degree at Teachers College, Columbia University, in TESOL and Applied Linguistics. I have over 10 years of experience teaching and tutoring English
, ESL, and Spanish
, in classrooms as well as one-on-one private tutoring and online Skype classes. I have worked with students of all levels, from beginning English to advanced literature
courses. I have worked with students to prepare for international tests such as TOEFL
and Cambridge First Certificate, and am also fluent in Spanish and have tutored middle and high school Spanish students. I have taught youth and adults from disparate backgrounds in New York City, San Francisco, Providence, RI, Spain, Mexico and Argentina.
I am currently giving Skype classes as I am currently out of the country, teaching at a bilingual school in Buenos Aires. I teach private classes on Skype to students from Argentina, US, Russia and Ukraine. I provide students with all materials and tailor classes to their needs, utilizing the online Skype platform and technology to our benefit. I have been giving Skype classes for over a year now and, after first being hesitant because I love being in the classroom, was quite pleasantly surprised at what a convenient and efficient and enjoyable option it is for both the student and the teacher for classes!
I approach each student uniquely after determining his/her needs, strengths and learning styles, and develop a plan according to his/her goals. Whether the focus be grammar
, test preparation
, or conversation fluency, I employ communicative methods and engage the learner by activating multiple intelligences. I seek to make learning fun and interactive for my students, but also have high standards and expectations so that they are challenged and make progress.
I also have a bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature and Spanish from Brown University, a CELTA ESL teaching certificate through the University of Cambridge.
I welcome any questions and would love to talk further about my pedagogy and your interests and needs!
