I have fifteen years of experience teaching ESL at Berlitz International. I graduated from New York University where I majored in American Literature. My teaching motivates students to integrate their improved knowledge of grammar with lessons involving conversation. I have the professional experience to teach both the fundamentals of English as well as the more advanced skills in essay writing. In the writing lessons, I find that students often need to expand their vocabulary. Therefore, a variety of reading material is an essential tool in learning. Depending on their level of comprehension, students will be asked to write on a variety of topics and themes selected for them. The more advanced students will be asked to read and write on subjects taken from newspaper articles, movies, literature, and magazines.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have taught ESL for 12 years at a certified language school in New York City. Currently I'm teaching a student to pass TOEFL. I can furnish recommendations from students.

Grammar

To improve your grammar, you must understand how the major tenses work (present, past, future, present perfect, past progressive etc.), recognize the parts of speech(nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions). In order to speak well, it is absolutely important for you to engage in conversation, that is a key component. Just studying grammar is not enough, it is essential for the student to engage in real conversation and be corrected by the teacher.

Literature

I have a Master's Degree in English Literature and read fluently in French literature as well. I attended Rutger's University in undergraduate school and New York University for my Master's Degree.
I am a writer and have written an original screenplay.

Proofreading

I have proofread many essays of students from corporate papers to college essays.

Reading

I have a master's degree in English Literature and have taught many students how to analyze the reading of different kinds of texts: essays, thesis papers, newspapers, magazine articles, school texts books, novels, and poetry.

Vocabulary

I have a master's degree in American literature. I have tutored for 12 years and have helped both high school and college students as well as corporate clients. I would need to talk to you to assess your particular needs and problems.

Writing

I have successfully helped students, both in high school and in college to improve their writing skills. I have a master's degree in English from New York University. I have been tutoring for 12 years.
