Accounting

I have over 10 years experience as an accountant. As with any other subject, accounting tutoring provides students with an opportunity to ask questions and a chance to review various calculations and rules at their own pace.

During a lecture session, it is easy to fall behind because your professor will move at a pace that makes it possible to go over all the material of their lesson plan. Rules on why an entry is debited or credited can be very tricky. That is one of many problems faced by new accounting students.

Oftentimes, I will break the material down into small steps and have my client do one or two problems to gauge their comprehension before we move forward. It is essential to master the earlier lessons to move forward with the more complicated problems.

Business

My business background has encompassed many years in a professional capacity. Having worked as a tutor for the past couple of years, I have not only advised tutees on the mechanics of accounting and related software, but effective correspondence as well. Clarity of expression with your colleagues and clients can be as useful towards building your business or marketing your skills as a fancy logo design or catchy slogan.

Elementary Math

I have found that my years of working as an accountant and the rewards of helping all students have combined nicely to be an effective math tutor. All teaching requires patience, but it is most important when working with elementary school children.

Math can be an intimidating subject for many youths. A knowledgeable guide to help reduce anxiety is key to building the confidence needed to understand and enjoy this subject.

Grammar

Good grammar is essential to a well composed paper. Please see my full description under Writing.

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is one of my favorite subjects to teach. The software is extremely handy for a variety of reasons. With the right training, the features in Microsoft Excel along with its user friendly design can be utilized for sophisticated decision making. The various commands and formulas at your disposal will make the possibilities endless!

The reader can probably tell by now that I am big proponent of this application, which makes teaching the subject all the more rewarding. There is no need to be a computer programmer to enhance appearance, reconfigure data or run scenarios in your database. I challenge my students with exercises that necessitate the use of the various features.

Did you know that formulas are not only used for calculations, but they also can be implemented to expedite the inputting and editing of data? Starting a new job? Impress your new boss by showing them what you can do with their existing spreadsheets!

There are many aspects that I could talk about when explaining Excel; however it is probably best that you contact me to speak directly about your specific needs.

Writing

I have helped students write essays for many years reviewing mechanics such as grammar and sentence structure. I meticulously read through each sentence to look for ways to spruce up the wording of any correspondence or assignment.

Simple grammar mistakes are often the result of English errors that are common in spoken lingo put into written word. Other mistakes can cause readers to lose focus when the paragraph does not flow properly. As a result, your entire point may be lost on them.

This is especially true when writing a resume or cover letter; recruiters go through reams of applicants eager to narrow the results and more often than not one grammatical error will eliminate you from further consideration.

Another common mistake for a writer to make is awkward wording. The writer knows what message they are trying to convey; however the point may get lost on the reader because he/she did not quite understand the sentence. This can be critical for college students submitting an essay.

Your professor may have assigned the same task to several classes and will basically read the same paper over a hundred times. As educators they want to ensure their students not only did research, but understood the topic being taught. Poorly worded sentences frequently result in readers not fully comprehending the author’s argument or message.

In other situations, there might be a mistake as simple as omitting a word. Professors in this case usually deduct points!

In short, proofreading can be critical for a variety of reasons. As long as you are going to have something proofread, why not pick up a few pointers along the way?

TIP: Almost all word processing software applications feature spell check- utilize it!

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
