Columbia University (Political Science)
Hello Prospective Students,
My name is Grace, a senior at Columbia University. I graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 2011, and I am now studying Political Science and Human Rights at Columbia. As a college student, I have had my share of stressful situations regarding school work. Therefore, not only can I help with your schoolwork, I can also provide insightful guidelines for those who have trouble studying or time management problems. I am responsible and hardworking, and I have had many students that have seen great results with me. Patience is my virtue and I take pride in my students learning the most they can from me. I've volunteered at senior centers to teach English to the elderly, and I have tutored students from elementary to high school level subjects. Here are some things you should know about me as a student, and as a tutor.
As a Political Science and Human Rights major, I have had extensive training in writing. Currently, I am working on my own book which is due to publish next January. I love literature and have studied all kinds of writings from all kinds of authors. From Homer to Ralph Waldo Emerson, I have studied it all. I have also studied and partaken in many Shakespearean plays; some of my favorite works include Othello and the Merchant of Venice.
Aside from English and writing, I have an extensive background in biology and mathematics. Coming from a high school which focused on the sciences, I've taken many advanced mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics courses. Not to mention, in the process for applying to college, I've taken many SAT II subject tests. I have often tutored students in preparation for their college admission process. Having experienced the exam as a student and as a teacher, I can also help you to improve your overall score. To ensure that I remain up to date with the SAT/ACT exams, I make sure to take such exams once a year to see how I can help my students to prepare better.
I have also tutored students for other exams such as the GED, the GRE, TOEFL and many more.
I am a very well-rounded individual, one that majors in humanities, but also one that remains interested in the sciences. I have tutored students of various ages, of various grades and in various fields. Each student is different, and so I make sure that my teaching methods are different as well. Customizing my teaching methods to each student, I am able to focus on their needs to maximize their ability to learn. If you are interested in my services, send me a message. Thanks for your time!

Grace was very professional and knowledgeable. She came in prepared to help him with the areas my son struggled in. She was patient and able to explain things in a way she could understand. He was greatly helped with the tricks she taught him. I am looking forward to her return and to see my son's improvement.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have attended one of New York's most competitive high schools and am now attending Columbia University. One thing that I have learned from my time as a student is the importance of developing correct study skills. I have learned that cramming is the least effective way to study. To do well, I've realized that one must study a subject over a period of time, make connections when going over certain points of a subject and to understand, not memorize, the concepts that are taught. I have helped several students in developing better study skills, and am constantly improving my own study skills to better help myself learn new subjects. I would like to impart that knowledge onto others, as I find that having great study skills really help to earning great grades.
