Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dutch

I passed the highest level of the national Dutch language proficiency exam, "Nederlands als Tweede Taal." This exam demonstrates language proficiency at the level needed to study at a Dutch university or work in a professional context in the Netherlands.

ESL/ESOL

I have been teaching English for over six years, and have worked with international professionals and students from more than 40 different countries to help them improve their English skills.

I specialize in accent reduction, making grammar easier to understand, improving writing skills, learning English expressions for day-to-day conversation, and increasing students' fluency in conversation.

I have helped international scholars at Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Rutgers and Purdue Universities prepare academic papers for publication, improve their presentation skills and practice interviewing for jobs.

My teaching style is fun, engaging, and focused on each student's specific interests, needs and language goals.

Social Studies

For the past 2 years I have taught 12th-grade social studies at an NYC public high school.

Writing

I have taught academic writing and professional correspondence to international graduate students and scholars in law, medicine, business, government, STEM and hospitality.
