When students work with me, they look forward to our sessions. Whether learning English as a Second language, writing, grammar, literature, public speaking, or business English - it can be fun.

I have 20+ years experience from high school through graduate school and adult learners. My work has taken me to Turkey with the State Department, teaching teens with medical obstacles, into businesses such as banks, software companies, and flower shops, acting as a Foreign Expert in China, presenting seminars for government and military groups, and introducing refugees to American culture and English. Recently, my Instructor's Manual for a top accent reduction text was published. Last Fall I worked in Bhutan for the Royal University of Bhutan - an amazingly beautiful country in the Himalayas.

I edit and organize other people's writing, too: College applications, thesis work, tech documents. Several med school and other graduate/professional students have worked with me to submit clean, balanced submissions.

Each client is unique and is treated that way. I truly love what I do.

Your goals are obtainable. Step by step, with a plan.

NOTE:
I am an accent reduction specialist. Many people teach English/ESL. I will teach you how to move your mouth, what repeated errors you are making, and why (culturally and physically) these tiny mispronunciations happen - making it easier for you to understand and correct.

College Counseling

College counseling involves thinking about who you are, what your goals are, and where you want to be.

My expertise in college counseling comes from years as a communications professor as well as a career in foreign exchange as a counselor (for families, schools, and students).

Often, I work with clients on their personal statements for colleges, their requests for references, as well as answering questions in application packets.

English

English is such a broad subject: grammar, structure, organization, spelling, writing, speaking, thinking, reading, comprehension! Whew! How can you be expected to know it all? Add to that essays, short stories, compositions, novel, and (oh no!) poetry!!

With years of experience as a high school, university, as well as adult learner experience, I will offer you tips for reaching your goals.

Whether business emails, academic essays, scientific articles, let me help you with your editing as well as learning the how and why behind it. Clarity, persuasion, and the development of powerful captivating documents - that's what it is all about.

ESL/ESOL

In addition to having a TESOL certificate, I have BS in Secondary English including ESL course work, and a Masters in Speech Communication, and am an accent reduction specialist. I recently authored the Instructor's Manual for the Voice and Articulation text used in most colleges. As an experienced curriculum writer, I have skills in creating individual plans for successful learning.

As a 20+ year teacher, my students have been as young as a 5 year old from Saudi Arabia, through to adult refugees, internationals working to get accepted to graduate programs, actresses working on parts, and business professionals working on getting promotions. My college teaching work has been in Literature for internationals, technical writing, public relations, and English comp. It is hard to stump me in any task you need to complete/learn.

Literature

Sometimes people have a hard time with literature because of the style of the writing, the vocabulary, the topic/subject, the culture of the writing.

With years as a high school teacher of English as well as a college lecturer in Oral Interpretation of Literature as well as Literature for International Students, I will help you work on the areas you struggle with, give you an easy recipe for writing essays, and, with any luck, teach you to like (if not love) the material you are reading.

Microsoft Outlook

As a technical writer and professor, I have not only used Outlook in my daily life, but have taught it many times at various schools including Wentworth Institute of Technology. In my professional business communications courses, I teach how to manage email which has a section on use of Outlook for creating folder, labels, and signatures.

Phonics

Phonics, or phonetics, is the practice of sounds. How a sound is produced. This is often, in English, not the way it is spelled - or how you THINK a word should be produced. The articulators help you shape the sound as the air escapes your mouth and nose.

Proofreading

As a technical writer manger (hi tech), PR writer, story writer, and teacher of (writer doesn't work here) writing, you will get expert editing, comments, questions, and suggestions.

Whether business emails, academic essays, scientific articles, let me help you with your editing as well as learning the how and why behind it. Clarity, persuasion, and the development of powerful captivating documents - that's what it is all about.

I can help with MLA, APA and most other styles. I have spent 20 years teaching at the high school and university level, as well as being a technical writer for major international IT and telecom companies.

Public Speaking

In addition to having a BS in Secondary Education (Comprehensive English, including Speech and Theater course work) and a Masters in Speech Communication, I am an accent reduction specialist. I recently authored the Instructor's Manual for the Voice and Articulation text used in most colleges. As an experienced curriculum writer, I have skills in creating individual plans for successful learning.

As a 20+ year teacher, my students have ranged from a five year old born in Saudi Arabia to adult refugees, from internationals working to get accepted to graduate programs to actresses working on parts and business professionals working on getting promotions. Organization, communication apprehension, as well as presentation skills are the three prongs of my pubic speaking coaching. It is hard to stump me in any presentation you need to complete/learn.

Use the right words while building rapport, confidence, warmth, and respect. Also, get the job done/the message across using global business English.

Speech

Listen! the baby said: MaMa!! Your parents were so excited! One of your first praised accomplishments is speaking...so why is it so hard to do now?

Public speaking, conversation, and pronunciation are different skills/abilities from each other and from talking.

Let me help you gain confidence in your organization, presentation, enunciation, accent - all things oral communications related.

As a professional speech coach on the national and international level, with experience with clients as young as three through middle school, high school, college, and adult learner, you will get tips and practice to learn what you need to improve your skills in communicating - whether in front of a group, or one on one in a cafe.

Get in touch! It is fun and life changing.

Study Skills

Where do I start? How do I manage it? What is the order I should do it in. Why don't I have motivation?

These are frequent obstacles of students when they are having difficulties studying or learning. As a former high school teacher, college professor, and writer who has bumped up against many deadlines, help my clients work on figuring out the answers for THEM for the questions.

I have had significant recent success with Realtor exams, flight attendant training, and interview prep. It's your life - don't let a test be your obstacle!

Studying has both universal and individual needs and components. I will work with you in figuring out what works best for you to achieve your studying, writing, learning goals.

Theatre

In addition to having a BS in Secondary Education - Comprehensive English including Speech and Theater course work, and a Masters in Speech Communication, I am an accent reduction specialist and performance artist. I recently authored the Instructor's Manual for the Voice and Articulation text used in most colleges. As an experienced curriculum writer, I have skills in creating individual plans for successful learning.

As a 20+ year teacher, my students have been as young as a 5year old from Saudi Arabia, through to adult refugees, internationals working to get accepted to graduate programs, actresses working on parts, and business professionals working on getting promotions. I can work with students on the literature side of theatre studies as well as the technical or performance aspects.

Vocabulary

As a teacher, writer, editor, and speech teacher, I can help you learn the nuances of connotation and denotation, the selection of the right word, and the building of your vocabulary.

Whether you are a native speaker or an international, growing your word bank and being able to use the right term or phrase or idiom for the right message is key to success and confidence.

Writing

I am a published, professional writer. In addition, I have taught all levels and varieties of writing (technical, business, literature, thesis work, etc).

You will not only get the explanations and editing you need, but also strong examples to help you build your knowledge of rules, styles, and personal skills.

I am available to work online, too!

Amazing tutor! I had been looking for an English tutor who could help me to improve my conversation skills: business and daily conversations including an accent reduction. I especially have difficulty expressing myself using the right vocabulary since I don't understand the nuance of many words. Also in conversation, I want to choose words that reflect personality. So I thought it was crucial to be taught by a ...
