Hi all and those interested in taking the initiative to achieve in their education!
It is great that you have taken the step of getting a tutor. I find education so important, which is why I am a tutor. I want to help people do better in school, on exams, and simply learn to enjoy learning. I have taken numerous biology (intro to upper level), math (including graduate level bio-statistics), and science classes.
I have a lot of experience teaching all ages from kindergarten up to college-level, and I most currently tutor biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and math - algebra and geometry. This includes SHSAT, PSAT, and SAT Math! I graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences. Moreover, I relate to many younger students. It is easy for me to get along with people and help them with any problems they have, in education and even personally if necessary. A little about me, I grew up in New York with great family and friends. I am responsible, hardworking, caring, and a great listener. I am confident that you will improve in your learning with me as your tutor, but only if you are willing to put your effort in too!
*I am also certified in CPR for children and adults, AED, and First Aid!*.

Melissa has been working with my daughter in biology for the past two months. Melissa has been extremely helpful, very detailed and thorough with Nicole. As a result of Melissa's tutoring, Nicole's grade has has gone up two letter grades. Melissa goes over Nicole's homework, prepares her for exams, and goes over additional information that would be useful to Nicole for class. I would highly recommend Melissa for tutoring. She is always extremely helpful, pleasant, and very knowledgeable.
Melissa has been tutoring my son in 5th grade Math, which entails the Common Core curriculum. She works wonderfully with him and is a very patient tutor. She does a great job at keeping my son focused on the lessons at hand and is very thorough in explaining various mathematical concepts to him. She always makes sure to review prior concepts which helps tremendously. She has great feedback after each lesson. Very beneficial. She also took the time to look into the Common Core curriculum and provided her own sample questions for tutoring. She works very well with my fifth grader and we are very pleased! Melissa is an excellent tutor who I would highly recommend to anyone. We are extremely pleased with her work. We are very happy to have her as a tutor!
This tutor is terrible at returning phone calls and texts. She would suggest to always go to loud places to study such as star bucks and would refuse to meet in college or house.
Yuliya, I am sorry you feel that way.
I don't make travels to Brooklyn for tutoring for any student because it is a bit too far and unfamiliar to me. It is not only you. I say this to all students. As said in my profile, I only do tutoring in Manhattan because that is what I am most comfortable with. I still do in-home, college, or any tutoring in the Manhattan, Long Island City, or Roosevelt Island areas.
I am sorry the places were noisy, but choosing the right quiet public place can be a hit or miss, especially in Manhattan. We did move somewhere quiet for your benefit after because I also wanted to find a place more quiet. I am always open to suggestions.
As for communication, I am often very quick to respond and easy to reach by text, phone, or email. I am sorry I can't tutor every student if the location or schedule doesn't suit. I have told you before your location is too far (especially with your home being over an hour away), so it would not work out and I can't be convinced. I would suggest finding a tutor who lives in Brooklyn, so they would be more willing to travel to any location you would like. I hope you find a great tutor on here! Thank you for your feedback.
Melissa was an excellent tutor. She was organized, well prepared, efficient and knowledgeable. She provided detailed evaluations of my children's progress I recommend her without reservation.
Melissa has been an amazing tutor to my son. He went from an F to an A in biology in very little time and helped him get better grades in geometry too. She is very patient and very clear in her explanations. She doesn't do the homework for him but makes sure he understand the subject so he can give the right answers. She gives very good review after the lesson, is very reliable and stress free for any parents.
We were very happy with Melissa's performance. She was hired at the beginning of my son's 5th grade. He has problems with math, not to mention that my son was officially diagnosed with ADHD. Melissa was able to make him work for up two hours uninterrupted with the short break. The results were amazing at the end of school year he progressed tremendously. Melissa means buisiness when it comes to tutoring, but my son liked her a lot. And on the other hand she is very pleasant. She was never late for her lesson, worked hard. Made sure that the homework was done, no matter how late it was. she was very reachable, meaning, I was always able to get in touch with her via text or email, and it is very important for a busy working mom. What is also important, that my son started to love math. She was also very successful in helping my son with other subjects. We will miss her a lot.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
