I taught Algebra 1 at the 9th grade level during my time as a teacher. I am very comfortable with all aspects of the curriculum and have accumulated a wide variety of resources addressing all levels of difficulty. I have seen first-hand the problems students have with different concepts and can present new material in a number of ways, depending on what the student is most comfortable with.
This course is designed to build on algebraic and geometric concepts. It develops advanced algebra skills such as systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics, and concepts and includes the study of trigonometric functions. Algebra 2 is vital for students’ success on the ACT, SAT 2 Math, and college mathematics entrance exams.
Geometry can be very esoteric, but it can also be very interesting if taught in the right way. After teaching it for two years at a high school level, it is really important to approach difficult concepts with practical application.
My approach to tutoring the GREs is to focus on your weak areas, while reinforcing your strengths. The GRE does not test any math past the 10th grade, but it does come up with tricky questions so the important thing is using the best test-taking techniques. The verbal section is focused on figuring out vocabulary with relation to context clues and developing strong reading comprehension skills. The writing section assesses whether you can concisely write two 30-minute organized essays. I am confident that I can help you significantly improve your scores in all three areas.
Microsoft Excel is an extremely powerful spreadsheet tool and may initially seem confusing, but with a little practice, can perform many diverse functions. I am confident that I will be able to help you master this versatile application and ensure it meets all your business and personal needs.
Microsoft PowerPoint is an extremely effective tool for presentations and some quick easy tips go a long way. The amount of customizations you can make are endless. This is why hiring a tutor makes more sense than individually trying it, which leads to a lot of time lost. Practical experience working through concrete examples coupled with theory is the best instruction and what I know to be most effective.
I have taken the Praxis 1 and received 99th percentile in all three categories. I had to take the Praxis 2 Math Test (0061) to become a high school math teacher. I was in the Top 15%. I tutored two students with the high school subject test before as well as one student in the middle school test (0069). Both students successfully passed, and I was able to build up an invaluable set of resources for future students of all ability levels.
Prealgebra is the foundation for all secondary level math. It is vital that the math fundamentals are present for any student in order to become successful in any capacity. Obviously, most people will not go on to become rocket scientists, but a solid understanding of fractions, decimals, and percentages is essential to functioning in everyday life.
I taught precalculus as a high school math teacher and am extremely comfortable with all the material. Even though the material might look hard initially, with the proper instruction and right practice, you will master the concepts and even enjoy solving problems!
SAS is a great software suite used for analyzing large amounts of data. From basic univariate statistics to complex multiple regressions, SAS can handle almost any mathematical analysis you ask it to. What's great is that it is much easier than other programming languages, and is intuitive to learn.
SAT Math only uses math topics up to 10th grade. There are no confusing subjects like calculus or trigonometry. Instead, I will focus on honing your test-taking abilities with relation to SAT techniques. Being able to identify what the problem is asking and what steps you need to take to solve the problem are critical. I sincerely believe that I can help you increase your score significantly.
You can show the most improvement on the Writing Section because the SAT tests certain grammatical concepts and re-uses a lot of them. If you have practice identifying these errors, you can outsmart the SAT on this section! With my resources and past experiences, I guarantee a significant increase in your scores. Having received tutoring myself for an SAT II Subject Test, I can personally attest to the potential gains to be made by working with a tutor, since my score improved.
Trigonometry might seem like a really tough subject (just the name scares people!), but it's actually intuitive and follows the same logical rules that other math concepts follow. With exposure to many different problems and situations, anyone can become an expert.
