I have been a fashionista since I was 14. That is when I started sewing and I am now 60.

I have been taking sewing classes since high school and I studied fashion design at Los Angeles Trade and Technical College between 2005 and 2009. It is here where I learned the unit method of garment construction. Each garment section is treated as a unit to be completed to the greatest extent possible before being attached to other garment sections.

When students are more eager to start making clothes for themselves right away, I generally like to start them with the commercial pattern of their choice and from this pattern they will learn how to take measurements, alter the pattern to fit themselves, how to choose fabrics, cutting, and garment construction.

From that pattern I will demonstrate samples(seams, collars, buttons and buttonholes) and the student will in turn do the samples on their own after I demonstrate how to use the sewing machine properly and safely.

I taught as a substitute teacher in the Pinellas County (FL) and the Atlanta school systems. I passed the C-Best test in California to substitute teach. I am a hand-crochet designer who is looking to launch my hats in the stores this winter season.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

QuickBooks

I started using QuickBooks in 2001 as a small business owner. I took a course in computerized accounting where I learned QuickBooks. Since 2003, I have been a bookkeeper using QuickBooks in various small businesses such as wholesale, fashion, manufacturing and non-profits.

I was hired by two companies to straighten out QuickBooks and was very successful. For another retailer, I set the company up on QuickBooks and then trained a friend to maintain the books and she is still working there.

For all of the companies, I did accounts payables, accounts receivables, commissions, inventory, deposits, bank and credit card reconcilations, budgeting for nonprofits, payroll on QuickBooks, ADP, and PayChex, factoring, financial reporting, export to Excel, and taxes. Because my present employer wanted to create another budget for one of the classes in his non-profit, I learned to use divisions to do this task.

I am not certified in QuickBooks, yet, but the last time I tested at a Temporary staffing agency I scored in the 90 percentile.

Fabulous Tutor! — I met with Diane for 4 hours to learn the basics of Quickbooks. As a small business owner, I have to keep records of all my finances myself. Because I have never had this responsibility before, I contacted Diane for help. She was extremely patient and helpful and taught me everything I needed to get started with the program. By the end of the lesson, I was working Quickbooks comfortably. I l ...
