Hi and thanks for considering me as your GRE or GMAT tutor.

For each of these tests, I have been in your shoes and so I know what it means to struggle with the material and to be lost as to how to approach the prep. I know how frustrating it can be when the websites and prep books are just not enough. What many tutors just do not get is that for these tests, the student does not need a teacher-like presentation of the material, the student needs to know exactly what to do to prep for these altogether unique tests.

I get it, though. My GRE and GMAT prep tutoring is not just my experience and academic credentials (I got 'em both, though), or even how well I know the material. It's much more about my understanding what YOU need to do, how you need to do it and my ability to figure out what is holding you back. It's also about communicating the same concept in any number of ways, so every student can get it. This is what good tutoring is all about.

I totally get it...and I get you, remember, I've been there myself.

Call or email me, we've got work to do.

I certainly appreciate David’s frustration at his son having to retake the GRE, but his comments do not accurately reflect my experience with his son.

David’s son had done absolutely no preparation when he contacted me a few days prior to his test. After working together for only 4 days, he achieved a decent score on the test, especially given the circumstances. Right before his first test, David’s son told me that he had already scheduled a re-test and that he would call me to resume lessons. We did eventually resume lessons, but we only met for 8 hours in a 2 month span, not exactly the 2-3 times a week like Dad said. I’m also not as sure as Dad that David put in the necessary work. He canceled multiple sessions, and in every session ‘confessed’ that he had not studied vocabulary words or learned key math concepts, like special right triangles. Not surprisingly, he scored the same on his re-test as he did on his first test.

My program is not about ‘methods’. I help students learn the skills and logic they need, and I help students develop a structured plan for working on their own, when they are not meeting with me. My program works great for all students, no matter what level they are starting at, so long as the student is willing to put in the work.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

GMAT

My GMAT tutoring is specifically designed to meet the stated objectives of the test. The GMAT wants us to combine information with logic and reasoning to find solutions to problems. So, I try to show you how to do just this.

My instruction is therefore divided into three separate parts: The information, the logic and reasoning, and (perhaps most important of all) how to combine the information with the logic and reasoning.

The information is the academic skills (math, verbal and writing) the GMAT expects us to know. Even though most students look at learning these skills as the main focus of their preparation, the reality is that this is only the starting point.

The second part of my instruction focuses on the logical skills. Together, we will define these logical skills as a set of teachable general principles. These principles are practical and simple to understand.

The third and final part of the instruction shows students how these principles can be easily applied to a wide range of academic concepts to solve problems.

I have found that when you combine these three lessons, you can effectively understand exactly what each question is asking for and exactly how to approach the answer process.

GRE

I remember about 5 years ago when I was looking for a GRE tutor. The first tutor I used had an Ivy League degree and the second tutor had a PhD in Math. I couldn’t understand a word either of them said to me. You see, they were total geniuses, and I’m not. They couldn’t speak my language.

Next, I turned to the prep books. I was amazed at how easy they made everything seem…until I realized they wrote the questions they were telling us how to answer. Then I understood why they always said stuff like “This is a good question for plugging in numbers, and the number 7 works really well here…”

My approach to tutoring for the GRE is much simpler: First, here are the “A, B, Cs” and “1, 2, 3s” we need to know and here is how we are going to learn them. Second, here is how we de-code GRE questions to make sense of them. Third, practice, practice, practice…

I give every GRE student a personalized plan for GRE success and then I help the student execute the plan. With an organized and sensible prep plan, EVERY student can score well on the GRE…including you.

Please take the GRE seriously, because your score really does matter. Grad school admission is ultra-competitive and it is the key to you fulfilling your academic and professional dreams. If you are ready to work, I am ready to help you reach your dreams!

Best Math Tutor for GRE — There are no words to express my gratitude to Scott. Scott tutored me in math for ten weeks as I prepared for the GRE. Not only would I not have gotten the score I needed on the GRE if it hadn't been for Scott, I don't know if I would have been able to pass the exam. He has a gift for explaining concepts in a simple way, and has a fool proof method and structure to prepare the student for test ...
