I have a Ph.D. in Mol. Biol./Mol.Gen.
I am a University Professor with extensive teaching experience at all levels. I have taught for many years various disciplines of natural sciences, and served as adviser, mentor, and tutor of students and postdocts, as well as Program Director of Graduate Studies.
I relate well to learners of different ages and multicultural backgrounds. I have taught and lectured in three languages on a broad range of biological topics to diverse audiences.
I attribute an extraordinary formative power to the teaching of biology. A biological mentality makes one appreciate, relish and protect diversity, and is averse to ranking differences in terms of superiority or inferiority.

I arrived in the States many years ago to enroll in a graduate program in Molecular Genetics. Although I could read scientific English well I did not speak the language and felt awkward in social settings. Since then -many years ago- I have gained mastery of the language and authored many scientific papers in leading journals, yet I have not forgotten those early difficult days. Perhaps because of my personal experience I relate well to ESL student and I understand and address their problems and qualms. The English language lends itself particularly well to an inductive approach, one in which the student is taught directly the language, as opposed to being taught about the language. The best ESL teachers I know are all bilingual; I'm bilingual and hopefully belong to that category.

I have extensive experience with tutoring high school and college students. The Science and Math components of the GED are part of my core competencies (Ph.D. in Biology). I have also authored many scientific peer-reviewed papers (48 of which are indexed in the MedLine) and written extensively on music.

General Music

I'm an expert in classical music, middle ages to contemporary. I specialize in Beethoven and Mozart. I studied and taught music analysis and music appreciation for over 20 years.
I love to do “close-reading” of major compositions, with or without score, depending on the pupil’s technical knowledge. I have done extensive cycles with educated but musically naive individuals with highly rewarding results.
I have given monographic courses on Beethoven piano sonatas, Diabelli Variations and last quartets; on Mozart Da Ponte operas, string quintets, and the mature string quartets.
In the field of opera I have offered detailed analysis of the Ring, Tristan, and Parsifal; Verdi’s work from Luisa Miller to Falstaff and the Requiem; Rossini’s opera seria.
I have also run special cycles on madrigals and motets (with scores), and romantic lieder, especially on texts set to music by different composers.
I have a large database of scores and recorded music, which I share with the pupils.

I have a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics (The Rockefeller University, New York, NY). I was a professor of Molecular Biology at the NYU School of Medicine for 11 years, and Director of Biomedicine, for 15 years.

As a professor of science I have ample knowledge of the scientific content of the GRE. In addition, I received extensive education in the humanities, with special emphasis in literature, philosophy, and the arts.

Currently I teach and tutor in various biological subjects, as well as Italian and music appreciation and analysis.

The preparation for the GRE exam is an effective way of identifying and working on the strengths and weakness of the student, and in my experience yields excellent results.

Native Italian, with University degree from Italian University.
Also Ph.D. from US University.
Extensive teaching experience at all levels.

I'm a native Italian and have spent many years in the US., where I got my Ph.D. I thus have firsthand knowledge of the challenges that face a non native. I have authored many publications in English in peer-reviewed journals and presented papers in English at many domestic and international conferences.
