Hi! I have earned the Bachelor degree in Childhood Education and am currently working towards my Master degree in Special Education.

My expertise is to help struggling students through individualized support to grow in their academic development. I truly believe that all children can learn if taught in a respectful, student-centered, and supportive environment. I also have extensive experience as a reading tutor.

In addition, I am German and taught a German language course through the visual arts in a Saturday enrichment program during spring.
If you are looking for an experienced and effective tutor for your child, then I am the right choice for you.

Elementary (K-6th)

Dear Student,
I am a certified Childhood Education teacher which means that I am well-trained in teaching elementary school students in such subjects as ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. I am working as an educational associate, also known as "paraprofessional", on the elementary school level since many years. My experience in working with all children taught me how important it is to look at every child individually, to notice the child's strengths, and to build on his or her strengths to overcome challenges and to achieve the individual goals in learning.I am also a trained Reading tutor and helped many students to reach the expected grade level in reading.
It makes me very happy to see students' reactions when they are realizing they reached their goals in learning and are confident because they are given the right tools to become successful learners.

I know very well what it means to struggle learning to read and write in the English language since this is not my first language. One has not only to learn and identify the various sounds of letters and letter blends, but also understand how to put them together into words and sentences. I will teach you various reading and writing strategies that will help you become successful in the English language.
I have tutored students for almost 10 years in the English Language Arts and am familiar with various phonics programs. I also studied phonics extensively in my literacy courses at CUNY.

Special Needs

I am qualified to tutor children with special needs for several reasons. I have obtained a NYS teaching certification and work towards my Masters in Special Education. But most importantly, I am working since over ten years with children with special needs on a one-to-one basis.

Study Skills

In order to take charge of your learning, you not only need to "learn", but also know how to study. In the lower grades, you might get away with just doing your homework, but once you experience difficulty in understanding a subject and, definitely, when you enter the testing grades, you will need to be able to develop skills that make learning easier and fun for you.
In college, I became aware of a number of study skills that proved to be beneficial, and I realized that they are very similar to those that are used by younger students.
I will teach you skills that are primarily for individual subjects as well as universal study skills which help you stay focused and organized.

Just what I needed for my 3rd grader! — We found Christine on Wyzant and she comes to tutor our daughter once a week for Math. Our daughter was not in need of any remedial or special tutoring but rather needed a tutor who could push her and solidify her basic concepts in mathematics. Christine has been doing just that. She is an excellent, patient teacher who will teach a child multiple ways to look at the same problem thus solidifying ...
