Hi!

I am resident physician living in Manhattan. To help pay off my loans I am tutoring students. I am analytical and can help you learn material in a logical manner. I have had all my education in the United States so I have a first-hand experience of how American classes are like and what is taught. I have had college level courses in a wide range of fields: engineering, natural sciences, business, humanities, social sciences. I am also an excellent test taker, having excelled on many of the standardized tests required to end up as a physician. My approach to tests is to learn material in a logical manner, to evaluate for and correct deficient areas, and to note relationships, similarities, and differences between different problems. I have now taken all three USMLE Exams required for physician licensure in the US.

Tutoring can be done in one of two general methods (I say "general" because I am adaptable to your learning needs):
1. You prepare in advance and ask me questions regarding concepts/problems/assignments you have trouble understanding
2. I make an outline of what to cover during each session

Below I have included some of my numbers, as a proof of qualification for the subjects I can teach.

Thank you for your interest! I hope we get to work together soon!

Sincerely,
Diane

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

Examples of algebra 2 concepts include:
conic sections
rational functions
domain/range concepts
polynomial functions
matrices
solving multiple variable equations
trigonometry
imaginary numbers

Biochemistry

I have passed college biochemistry as well as medical school biochemistry. I feel very confidant with the subject as my grades in the subject were superb.

Biology

I have 2 semesters of basic college biology, 1 semester of genetics, 1 semester of molecular biology, and 1 semester of biochemistry under my belt. In addition, I attend medical school where I use biological principals on a daily basis. I feel very comfortable about teaching the subject. I have tutoring experience and have been a piano teacher in the past as well.

Calculus

Potential calculus topics that I can cover:

Simple Differentiation Rules
Sum rule in differentiation
Constant factor rule in differentiation
Power rule
Chain rule
Product rule
Quotient rule
Inverse functions and differentiation
Implicit differentiation
Related rates
Stationary point Maxima and minima
First derivative test
Second derivative test
Extreme value theorem
Newton's method
Taylor's theorem
L'Hôpital's rule
Leibniz's rule
Mean value theorem
Logarithmic derivative

I have a problems-based approach to tutoring calculus, which means that I spend time working problems with the student and will explain general principles if asked.

MCAT

I took the MCAT to gain acceptance into medical school. My score of 38 put me in the 98th percentile of all test takers. I have since graduated from medical school and have had continued familiarity with the subject matter by tutoring throughout medical school.
