I am a highly experienced professional man with a postgraduate education as well as a CPA and MBA. Currently, I am an executive with a large organization by day and during evening and weekends I work with a wide variety of students of all ages including adults in Math-Pre-algebra, Geometry, Algebra and Trigonometry for homework, Regents, GED preparation, ASVAB preparation, SAT and ACT preparation. Other students have worked with me over the years in English, reading and vocabulary skills for both test preparation and homework and classwork skills. Beginning and intermediate accounting and finance students have worked with me to sharpen their business, accounting and bookkeeping skills as well as their ability to write persuasive documents.

Many students have written me, called me, emailed and texted me after their big exams and coursework was completed to say "I just received my course grade and achieved an A! I really don't think that I could have done it without your help." Our work together is a partnership and if you are willing to put in the time and effort, then I will help to get you to where you want to be.

As I have worked with many of the NYC school district students over the past several years, I have been fingerpinted for security reasons which should also provide parental assurance that they are in a safe environment.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have 10+ years of experience working with 6th through 8th graders on beginning and intro to Algebra through the end of Algebra 1. I have worked with student on homework problems, Regents preparation as well as test questions for specialized high school admission exam which naturally include many algebra questions as well as word problems.

ASVAB

I have worked with many ASVAB students over the past several years in all areas of the test; but specialize particularly in mathematics. Many of my students need a refresher in prealgebra, algebra, word problems and basic operations which may have been forgotten over the years. Since mathematical knowledge is cumulative, I have no problem whatsoever in starting from the beginning and the simple and working our way up the chain to the more complex!

Business

I am an experienced financial manager with more than 20 years of supervisory accounting and finance experience with world class Fortune 500 international firms. Having managed groups of diverse individuals of 5 – 25 employees, I have successfully trained junior staff, rotated employees into new roles and streamlined operations when necessary to meet budgetary and strategic objectives. During my career I have had a successful track record of introducing new products and services, new reporting tools and reports and coordinating projects with other groups within the organization.

My academic credentials include an MBA in Finance as well as a post MBA certificate in accounting from Pace University in New York. Additionally, I am a licensed CPA, certified forensic accountant and notary public. As I consider it important to keep up to date with changing interpretations and trends, I take advantage of continuing education both internally in my firm as well as with external providers. My credentials have recently been recognized by the AICPA with a Certification in Financial Forensics and am a fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners

Elementary Math

Have over 10+ years of working with students of all age groups on elementary mathematical concepts and applications. These topics include fractions, ratios, area, percentages, word problems, probability and many others, It is important to build from a solid foundation prior to going on to advanced mathematical applications in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and precalculus. My work with so many students has helped to give them this solid underpinning and understanding of how to effectively perform these applications by example after example.

ISEE

I have had considerable experience tutoring students for the ISEE examination over the past couple of years. I have tutored students at all three levels of the examinations- lower level, intermediate level and upper level. I have worked with them on all parts of the examination including the verbal sections as well as the mathematics sections. Having worked with a variety of practice problems, I am familiar with all of the preparation materials and the strategies necessary for successful examination scores.

Prealgebra

I have considerable experience with grade school, middle school and high school students with prealgebra, algebra and other mathematical concepts in preparation for end of year testing, specialized schools admission and Regents exams. I will cover any and all subject matter including basic mathematical applications, ratios, percentages, graphs, areas, probability, word problems and many others.

Regents

I have been tutoring for over seven years in subjects that include algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, integrated algebra for grades 5-8. My tutoring has included test preparation for all of the Regents exams, as well as statewise tests given in NY.

I have great familiarity with the scope and content of these exams and have worked with my students on the course content that comprises the entire scope of the Regents examinations. I am well prepared to work with Wyzant students on Regents examinations.

I have a BA degree, an MBA and a CPA as well.

Study Skills

I am qualified to teach study skills since I have tutored for many of the Regents examinations in grades 6-10, the ISEE examination, the SHSAT and SSAT examinations as well as the SAT, ACT, ASVAB and GED. My experience totals approximately 10 years. Additionally, I have a CPA license, MBA degree and BA degree.
To tutor these exams, I typically work with prepared study materials from Kaplan, Peterson, Mcgraw Hill and other sources.

Ted C. is an excellent tutor! — Subsequently reading Ted's background information on Wyzant's Web site, I knew Ted would be the chosen tutor, and my intuition did not prove me wrong, as he is exactly what he says he is, and that is, extremely knowledgeable in his field with maturity, professionalism, punctual, patience, and above all, a good listener to my son.
