My name is Jack, and I am a secondary school teacher with over five years of teaching experience in New York City. I taught a range of subjects before choosing English language
arts. I have a degree in theater and have completed honors level graduate work in English. In addition to teaching, I am an award-winning playwright, published writer and experienced tutor.
I have a range of experiences as a student to draw on as a teacher, including public and boarding school, alternative college, and an urban graduate school. I also studied in London, where I experienced a theatre
immersion program. I encourage collaboration with my students to co-author their education, and work to make students feel comfortable and supported, as this approach tends to foster authentic learning and a satisfying educational experience.
Every student has the potential to be outstanding, whether they are naturally studious and disciplined, or easily distracted and reluctant learners. As a graduate student, I have conducted supervised research into various learning styles and am interested in assessing my students' aptitude for English and their natural approach to learning. I tailor my lessons and overall approach to teaching according to the individual needs of each student.
I consider my job as an educator to be a great responsibility as well as a wonderful opportunity with immense rewards. I am passionate about perpetuating enthusiasm for English language arts
in my students, as literature
and literacy are essential to the curious mind and help foster an enthusiasm for life-long learning.

Summer is indeed over, and with the arrival of fall is the beginning of the new school year. I am happy to hear from and see old students and new, and look forward to fitting new students into my schedule. I enjoyed getting out of New York City to visit
friends at their beach house in July, and look forward to a planned visit upstate before Thanksgiving. Christmas should find me down in sunny...
This is my first blog entry. I recently started tutoring with WyzAnt and am very pleased with my current students. I was initially qualified to tutor in English, but am now also qualified to tutor in Reading, Writing, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Literature.
I have a background in Alternative Education, and thus am dedicated to modeling my tutoring style according to the needs...
