My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. As a summa cum laude graduate, I know that hard work and dedication to learning can pay off. As one of the top 50 WyzAnt tutors nationwide for the last three years, I have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of students realize their own potential and see their grades and test scores improve. This is truly the best job I have ever had!
I specialize in tutoring math and English for success in school and on the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, and the NYS Regents exams. Whether we are working on high school geometry proofs or GRE vocabulary, one of my goals for each session is to keep the student challenged, but not overwhelmed. I assign challenging homework after every lesson, and provide periodic assessments and progress reports.
To ensure that students have a quiet and comfortable study space in which to work with me, I have a tutoring office in midtown Manhattan, where I teach private lessons and group classes. However, I can travel to the student, if necessary.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies! My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. If you need to cancel or reschedule all (or part) of a scheduled lesson, notify me at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged for the missed time.
I highly recommend Tiffany. She helped tutor my daughter for her SAT and my daughter's test score went up by 280 points. She engaged my daughter and helped to give her the confidence and the techniques she needed to navigate through the test more efficiently. I am very grateful and appreciative for her help, it was money well spent.
Tiffany has been extremely helpful, reliable, and thorough in helping me with my homework - she is the reason I am graduating with my masters at NYU! Thank you for all of your help, Tiffany.
Tiffany is a great tutor. My daughter and I are very pleased with her tutoring skills. Tiffany is very helpful. Thank you, WyzAnt, and thank you, tiffany.
Tiffany has been great with scheduling and is very prompt in responding. She's also a great listener, which I feel that people take for granted at times, but she will sit and listen and helped identify where my struggles were in my studies.
She has a great wealth of knowledge and material at her disposal and has exceeded all expectations I had going into my first couple sessions.
I wholeheartedly support and recommend Tiffany!
My 10 yr old 5th grade son just had his first session with Tiffany. She was waiting for us at her office, was very good with my son, and was good with me too. My son is cramming, basically, for specialized middle school exams, and Tiffany is working with him on the OLSAT test as well as math and science curriculum material. She listened to me describe what we have done so far at home, and she picked up with my son right away. She engaged my son and did not treat him childishly at all. (He said that she was a better tutor for him than I was. Can't argue with that!) My son is looking forward to next time with Tiffany.
Tiffany is a very patient, very good tutor. My boys had gone to her since last year 9th grade and now 10th. She knows how to teach and get her students to understand the material and love the subject they are learning.
My daughter just started working with Tiffany but she already feels comfortable. She was helpful to both of us in explaining the differences between the SAT and ACT and she has the materials and the expertise to help my daughter prepare for either one. She's professional, responsive and well-organized. I'm happy we found her.
My understanding of the SAT Math section was choppy. Although I had taken group tutoring lessons before, I didn't feel as if I had a complete grasp on how to solve SAT specific math questions. Tiffany not only reviewed the material, but also helped me solve the questions in a limited time frame. I'm thankful for her thorough and in-depth teaching.
Working with Tiffany has been a lovely experience. I feel very prepared to take the GRE (and I am someone who never feels prepared to take standardized tests). She is patient, gives manageable amounts of homework pertinent to the lessons from the previous session, and she creates a fantastic learning environment. Couldn't recommend her more highly!
Tiffany is a great tutor. She will break everything down to the T so you can understand each part of the lesson and takes her time and doesn't rush through the lesson. I would recommend Tiffany to anyone looking for a tutor.
Tiffany seems very kind and my daughter is fond of her. She's very focused on finding my daughter's weak points and you can see she does all she can to try and help. I definitely would recommend trying sessions with her.
I am glad I found Tiffany as a tutor. She helped me to understand the equations I didn't figure out the first time. She breaks everything down, and she answered all of my questions without any issues. She was very patient, and she did not rush our session. I would recommend her to anyone I know who needs help as well. Thanks Tiffany!
Congratulations on passing the GED math test!! All your hard work has paid off. I'm so glad I could be there to support you as you worked to achieve this goal.
Tiffany is doing a very good job of identifying the problems my son has with algebra. She gives him problems that cover the areas that give him trouble. My son feel very comfortable with her and her teaching methods.
Tiffany provided a very useful digest of the first SAT tutoring session with my daughter, which included weaknesses to focus on going forward. My daughter reported that the tutoring time was well spent, and Tiffany was easy to work with and presented the material in a clear and organized manner. We are off to a very good start.
I am very happy to have Tiffany as my daughter's tutor. She is very happy with Tiffany's craft.
I have been working with Tiffany from about June of this year for GED preparation. I love her. She is attentive, kind, very professional, always very reachable on the phone, flexible and most importantly she goes out of her way to find out information for me and she didn't have to do it. I recommend her because she is a fantastic teacher!!! I am making progress and she is a big part of it. She is helping me to reach my goal.
I am happy to report that Tereza passed all the sections of the GED test on her first try and she just got admitted to FIT for Fall 2013!
Tiffany was willing to coordinate a tutoring session with my friend -- that I purchased -- to help him prepare for the policy academy. It was easy to discuss with her my expectations. She was very prompt in responding to my questions, and prepared a detailed report after the session. My friend was very pleased with the results.
Tiffany continues to bring clarity to me in my logic class. I mistakenly signed up for a 201 level course and w/ Tiffany's tutoring I can see my way through it.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Over the last 3 years, I have helped many students improve their math and English skills to prepare for the ASVAB test. One of my students raised his score from 22 to 35 after just a few weeks of tutoring, and now he is joining the army! I begin with a diagnostic test of the student's current abilities, which has the same types of questions found on the actual test. This is followed by an in-depth discussion of each question--not just the right answer, but the strategy the student can use to arrive at the right answer in seconds. I also work with students to help them prepare for the ASVAB subject tests by preparing overview lessons on each subject area, practice tests, and material for further study at home.
Over the past 4 years, I have tutored many students for the GED, with great results. I am now also tutoring students for the TASC, which has replaced the GED in NYS. I am qualified to tutor every section of the new GED and the TASC. I focus on teaching the core concepts tested, as well as proven test-taking strategies and time management skills that help students finish quickly and accurately.
Geometry is my favorite math subject and I love not only helping struggling students succeed in geometry, but also instilling in them the same passion for the subject. I have over three years of experience tutoring geometry for elementary school through high school. The subjects I cover include area, perimeter, volume, surface area, lines and angles, polygons, triangles, circles, geometry proofs and logic, coordinate geometry, and trigonometry.
I tutor for the entire GRE test, but most students come to me for help on the math section. I share with my students the GRE test-taking strategies I used to score in the 99th percentile, but I also focus on making sure the student has a solid foundation in the core math and English concepts tested.
I worked for several years as an instructor and about a year as an Education Director for an English language school in Manhattan that prepared students for various tests of English, including the IELTS, so I am very familiar with the test and its requirements. In total, I have about five years of experience tutoring ESL and the IELTS, specifically. I also earned a TEFL certificate in teaching English as a second language.
I have been tutoring for the ISEE (all three levels) for about 3 years with great results. Since I specialize in both math and English tutoring, I can tutor for all sections of this test. With every lesson, I don't just teach to the test, but strive to improve the student's core skills in reading, writing, math, and reasoning. However, I do share my best test-taking strategies and encourage students to use them, because I feel they help develop reasoning ability.
Philosophers distinguish correct reasoning from incorrect reasoning by means of logic, so introductory logic courses are required in most philosophy BA programs. While completing my undergrad degree in philosophy, I took several courses in logic beyond the introductory level and received A grades in all. In my last year, I tutored introductory logic to beginning-level students.
I explain in detail such basic logical concepts as propositions, arguments, explanations, deductive and inductive arguments, and the difference between validity and truth. I teach the concepts behind the types and functions of language and the methods used in constructing definitions. For instance, students will learn the difference between the extension (denotation) and intension (connotation) of a term that is defined. I also help students learn how to analyze arguments to find problems of reasoning by recognizing fallacies (typical mistakes in reasoning) of relevance, defective induction, presumption, and ambiguity.
Following that, I teach students how to analyze the structure of deductive arguments using classical Aristotelian logic. Students will learn the four kinds of categorical propositions, the different types of syllogisms, and the square of opposition. From there, I teach beginning-level modern (symbolic) logic. Students will learn the 9 elementary argument forms (the rules of inference) and the 10 logical equivalencies (rules of replacement) and how to use these forms to construct argument proofs. They will also learn how to construct and work with truth tables and truth trees.
I try to teach not just the terms or the steps involved in introductory logic, but to help students gain a conceptual understanding--a knowledge of both the "how" and the "why"--so they are better prepared for more advanced logic.
I have 3 years of experience tutoring students for the NYS English Language Arts and Mathematics exams, as well as the Geometry Regents, Integrated Algebra Regents, and Algebra 2/Trig Regents.
My goal is to reinforce and expand on what the student is learning in school so that the student is fully prepared for success on the exam. I use current textbooks approved by the state, as well as practice material from previous Regents exams. I often work in conjunction with the student's English and math teachers, to keep the student on track and challenged.
