French

As a classroom French teacher, I relied heavily on music, stories, simulations, film, and movement to engage in foreign language learning. As a tutor, I am successfully able to adapt many of these strategies and methods for one-on-one instruction. I can help students learn grammatical concepts through song and visuals, and vocabulary through movement and story-telling. I always bring the focus of the lesson back to communication, making authentic use of whatever concept has been learned. My overarching goal is to connect the language to the students’ lives, allowing them to communicate in the target language about their interests and own life experience. I believe that when that connection is made, true language learning occurs.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
