The thing I love more than learning is sharing my own love of learning with my students. In my more than six years tutoring, I have helped students pass Regents exams, score well on the SAT, organize and write successful papers, improve writing skills, plan and prepare for college and high school applications, and more.

Qualifications: I have six-plus years experience tutoring students in English, History, Writing, and test prep (SAT, ACT, SAT Subject tests, Regents, SHSAT, GRE, GMAT, etc.) In addition to tutoring, I am a writer/editor, and I hold a BA in English (minor in History) from UC Santa Barbara and an MA in Literature (emphasis on Cultural Studies) from New York University.

I aim not only to teach but to inspire. I tailor my lessons to the students learning level, and come up with innovative ways to make the learning fun, even for the most disinterested students. I have worked with students ranging from junior high up to adult students returning to college or pursuing advanced degrees.

I focus on learning skills as well as the material at hand, so that the student not only memorizes material to pass a test but really learns and understands it. I like to focus on study skills, and teach my English students how to plan and organize their papers in the most pain-free means possible. I have also developed a number of mechanisms for enhancing vocabulary prepping for standardized tests, and analyzing and understanding literature.

My past and current students have shown vast improvement in my time working with them. One example: I was recently working with a college student who hired me because her history professor had called her a "red alert student" based on her writing skills. We worked together for the semester, focusing on reading comprehension, basic grammar, and essay organization, so that by the end of the term that same professor was praising her improvement.

I am excited to help others improve in a similar manner and look forward to hearing from you!

ACT English

I tutor in grammar rules as well as sharing proven test-taking tips that help students to do well on the ACT.

ACT Reading

The Reading section can prove daunting because of time, so I work with students on time management, as well as reading comprehension and tips for maximizing productivity with each passage.

American History

I have a BA minor in History, and much of my MA was focused on Cultural Studies (and the historical aspects of literature). I enjoy working with students on American History, and have worked with many students on classwork, paper writing, and prep for the Regents exam.

English is my pet subject, and I have a BA and MA in English. I love helping students to become enthused about literature, and work with them on active reading, which helps make future writing assignments much more manageable. I also cover grammar, writing tips, and test prep (English Regents, SAT, ACT, SAT Literature).

I have extensive experience working with ESL students on everything from basic grammar and vocabulary to more advanced writing. I tailor lessons to a student's level of understanding, and break down the language in simple steps.

European History

I have a Minor in History from my BA degree and much of my MA work centered in literature from a historical perspective. For this reason, I am often able to make history enjoyable for students, by focusing on the social and cultural aspects and how they affected the course of history and are still relevant today. European History is an especially good example of both.

I am not only a tutor but a writer and copy editor. That makes me also a grammar aficionado and expert. I not only teach the grammar rules, but explain why they are relevant so that students can understand the reasoning behind them (and thus are more likely to be successful in using them). My grammar approach is especially helpful in Test Prep for the SAT and ACT.

I have worked with several students on GRE prep, focusing on the Verbal Reasoning and Analytical Writing. In addition to sharing test-taking tips, I make sure students have a solid foundation in the overall concepts.

I have both a BA and an MA in literature an read everything I can get my hands on. I am able not only to help students understand and analyze literature but to enjoy doing both. I tutor in academic literature and for the SAT subject test.

I teach reading comprehension and vocabulary development, and tailor my lessons to a student's reading level.

I have worked with junior high and high school students on a number of regents subjects. I focused on high school regents exams during my time tutoring in the after-school program at the Harlem Children's Zone, and have since worked with individual students. I specialize in ELA and history (Global and U.S.)regents.

SAT Reading

I teach basic reading comprehension as well as test-taking strategies specifically created with the SAT in mind. I have had several students greatly improve their scores as a result of working with me.

SAT Writing

I help students to understand the most common grammatical errors seen on the SAT and then employ proven test-taking strategies to help them master the exam and also write high performing essays. I have helped several students to vastly improve their scores.

I have a broad, varied vocabulary and an expert command of the English language. I have worked with everyone from ESL students to high school and college students looking to expand their language skills. I am especially adept at offering tricks for using context, as well as root words to increase comprehension.

World History

I am trained in all history, and have experience prepping students for regents exams, as well as researching and writing papers and preparing other projects.

In addition to tutoring, I earn my living as a writer. I am expert at research and paper writing, and also have solid experience in helping students to write everything from cover letters, to statements of purpose, to theses.
