Hello, my name is Lauren B. and I have been teaching history at the middle school and high school level in Harlem and the Bronx for 3 years now. I graduated from from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York and studied History and Education and played Division III women’s soccer. I also studied British History at the University College London and just finished my Master's at Fordham University in Adolescent Social Studies Education. I grew up in San Francisco, California and am blessed with two professor parents who always taught me to be a global citizen. Traveling to foreign places such as Hong Kong, Estonia, Russia, Lithuania, Italy, and Greece I have grown to value other cultures and try everyday to open my student’s eyes to the world around them. I look forward to rigorous tutoring sessions in which students learn to think, write, and speak like global citizens regardless of what we are working on that day.
I am a New York State certified teacher in 7-12th grade history and absolutely love working with students one-on-one or in a small group setting. I am an upbeat driven individual who sets high expectations for her students. There is no "opting out" or "this is too hard." Everything can be broken down into small attainable steps and it is all about breaking down daunting tasks into more doable pieces. As a collegiate soccer player, I love competition and try to run my sessions with 1) teaching the topic 2) practicing the topic/skill and then 3) playing a game where a student gets points for correct answers.
Working in charter schools, I have had tons of experience working with test prep, especially the Regents. If your student needs help acing those Regents or AP test, I'm your girl!
I look forward to getting to know your child and finding out "what makes them tick" in order to help them find personal and academic success.
