I have been tutoring for over 7 years. I have tutored SAT, LSAT, SHSAT, PSAT, and other subjects. I have worked for Kaplan as well as smaller test prep companies, and received a 99th percentile SAT score. I have tutored ISEE students for private test prep companies.
I received a 99th percentile score on the SAT and was part of my schools math team in high school. I am an expert in helping students squeeze those last few points out of the math section by introducing new, common-sense methods. I have an ample bank of questions of different difficulty levels that I use to keep students on their toes and more importantly, thinking about new and creative ways to tackle problems.
Do not let other tutors fool you. There is no strategy involving skimming, reading the first sentence, the last sentence, a middle sentence, or any random sentence that will help you on the SAT Reading Comp section. There is one way to improve performance on this section of the SAT and that is to totally re-train the students mind to absorb certain key information in the material. I also teach students to love these incredibly boring passages, which makes the section more tolerable for those who generally dislike this type of work.
Secondarily, I have developed a vocabulary bank that helps students on vocab based questions.
As an attorney I possess the highest level of proofreading and writing ability. My goal is to transmit those skills to your student. The most important part of this section of the SAT is learning grammar fundamentals that are no longer learned in school. I have review materials that break these concepts down into simple terms and provide the most common grammar errors so that students know what to look for. I have had students make 100+ point jumps in this section alone.
Also, I know exactly what the graders are looking for on the essay. I have found most students suffering from a lack of organization, and can fix that relatively quickly, resulting in an immediate improvement in score.
I was a division 1 college soccer player. I have worked at several camps as an instructor, teaching kids techniques. I still play frequently in local leagues and pay close attention to the trends of the game in terms of tactics and coaching.
