Hi! My name is Ethan. I graduated from Cornell University in May of 2012. Though I currently have a full-time job, I miss academics, and I want to stay involved with the community. I believe that the opportunity to tutor students learning the same information I was taught is a great way to do this!
During the last 3 years in college, I spent a few hours a week hosting office hours for every introductory physics course that was offered (for one semester, I tutored introductory mathematics courses as well). From this experience, I developed my own versatile teaching style, and gained an understanding of the various parts at which a student might struggle in physics or mathematics. I believe that it is rare to find a tutor who recently completed the same course as the struggling student, but at the same time has hundreds of hours of experience!
The first time I work with a new student, I like to identify the reasons he or she is struggling. The difficulty is often a combination of fundamental and conceptual issues. Depending on which is more pressing, I concentrate on that area. When the student is open to additional practice outside of tutoring hours, I assign supplemental work as well.
