To date, I have been a writing tutor for college students for four semesters and I have taught three semesters of Composition 2 and one semester of Texts and Contexts at Fordham University. My training as a tutor has helped me to both value and strengthen my "one-on-one" rapport with students. As a classroom teacher of college students, I have concentrated on honing my assessment skills. I assess students' essays both for grammar and mechanical adequacy and also for less clear-cut skills, such as precision, coherency and persuasiveness. As a tutor I can help students revise and improve their essays, particularly in English and History, but also in the social sciences, including Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, etc. I am also very helpful to students who need assistance in brainstorming and in coming up with ideas. Thus I am skilled both in helping students who are at the revision stage and also in guiding them through the writing of an essay from start to finish. Finally, I am happy to assist students with their college essays, as I have logged many, many hours helping my son and my daughter with their college essays.
I am currently in my fifth year of the English PhD program at Fordham University. I have completed all of my classes, my Comprehensive exams, and my proposal and am now working on my dissertation. As I spend a good part of my days writing, some days up to ten hours, I feel I am an excellent choice of a tutor for those students who need help with the writing, or re-writing, of their essays.
