Torkom holds a Master of Art in international affairs, and a Bachelor of Art with honors in international studies with a focus on international relations from the City College of New York. Torkom can be of great help to freshman students who arrive on campus needing developmental skills and strong academic support to help them learn to navigate the higher educational system. As a tutor, Torkom is extremely diligent and diplomatic.
Torkom has been teaching speech, freshman composition, English grammar courses, and a remedial course, CATW at John Jay College of Criminal Justice for many years, including working as a writing consultant at the Writing Center at the City College of New York. In addition, he tutors a variety of academic subjects, such as writing, English, accent reduction, ESL, TOEFL, grammar, speech, world humanities, world history, international relations, international studies, culture, genocide, human rights, the Armenian Holocaust, sociology, immigration, dance in cultural diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, practice of diplomacy, art history, music history, acting career coaching, and belly dance, also known as Raqs Sharqi. Because of his competency in more than twenty languages, Torkom tutors complete beginners in the following foreign languages: Spanish, Italian, French, Modern Standard Arabic, Bulgarian, and German.
Torkom is very determined, extremely disciplined and highly dedicated in his work with students who are an extremely diverse population that make up a microcosm of the United States. Being an immigrant who speaks multiple languages surely helps Torkom establish quick rapport with his tutees, a valuable skill for both tutors and teachers. Also, Torkom is a patient and persistent tutor who works untiringly to help students understand their responsibilities in the academic arena.
