Hi there,

My tutoring specialties are the PSAT and SAT, and high school mathematics. On my SAT, I scored a 2280/2400 (99th percentile of all scores), and I offer tutoring for all sections of the test: Writing, Critical Reading, and Mathematics. In addition, I majored in mathematics in college, and enjoy teaching pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, and pre-calculus.

With private tutoring, my goal is to see measurable improvement in my students' learning and academic success, while also striving to make learning enjoyable. My tutoring experiences have taught me how to identify specific areas where students can improve. At the same time, my mathematics education allows me to: break down complex problems, pinpoint the logic underlying their solutions, and effectively communicate this logic. I personalize my lesson plans around each student, so that every tutoring session is efficient, effective, and (hopefully) somewhat fun!

Algebra 1

I was a math major in college, and almost all of my classes required a thorough understanding of algebra 1 and 2.

Although it can seem daunting at first, I like to show students how algebra is actually a very neat subject. For example, did you know that the Rubik's cube can be studied as an algebraic object? Writing

I really enjoy helping others with their writing. My mom is a professional editor, so when I was growing up, she proofread and helped me think through various papers that I brought to her. As a result, I gained a lot of exposure to the revision process. This is one factor that allowed me to score a 790/800 on the writing section of the SAT.

SAT Math

I scored a 710 on the math section of the SAT. I also went on to be a math major in college, and enjoy teaching math and making it understandable.

SAT Reading

I scored a 780 on the critical reading section of the SAT. It can definitely be a difficult and subtle section of the SAT, and one that requires practice.

SAT Writing

I scored a 790 on the writing section of the SAT. In college, I took enough writing-intensive philosophy classes to qualify for a philosophy minor at Duke University.

I really enjoy helping students improve their writing. Over the years friends have come to me to proofread and edit their papers, and I've seen their writing improve a lot in the process.

Discrete Math

As a math major, I took a semester-long course in Discrete Math in my junior year. At my university, discrete math was considered a "gateway" course to more advanced courses in mathematics. As a result, I reinforced the ideas that I learned in discrete math (such as mathematical notation, proof-writing, and combinatorics, to name a few of the most important) in my subsequent math courses.
