Hi parents and students! I am a graduate student at NYU studying International Education. Before beginning my master's program I taught Spanish and World History at an all girls' college preparatory school for three years. I graduated from Colby College in 2007 with a double major in Spanish and history and have loved inspiring my own love for education in my students.
I have lived, worked, and travelled extensively in Latin America, which allowed me to master my command of the Spanish language. I'm also recently returned from the Dominican Republic were I completed a language and culture course during the month of January. My time abroad introduced me to a variety of cultural aspects, which I use and teach to enhance grammar and vocabulary lessons. I focus on the four areas of mastery: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Often during one on one tutoring sessions I emphasize speaking and listening to help students become confident in their speaking ability and begin to overcome their fear of making mistakes. Making mistakes is a vital part of the language learning process! Although my experience has been teaching beginner level Spanish to middle school and high school students, I am open and willing to teach all ages.
Teaching and learning history is one of my greatest passions. While teaching World History, I developed my own curriculum in order to engage students in interactive activities apart from the textbook. I often connect the historical material being studied with current events, which allows students to see the relevance and importance of learning history. History offers something for everyone and I love helping students find a time period, historical figure, or event they feel passionate about.
