Do you need help with editing, drawing, bringing something from your imagination into form? Whatever creative projects you are working on, whether it be visual or verbal expression, I'll work with you to discover your natural learning style and develop a plan of action. Maybe you just need some tips on how to get a paper or presentation started, or you want to have a step by step series of hands-on exercises to develop how to "see" by drawing with a pencil or wire in 3 dimensions. I facilitate your unique process by listening carefully and navigating in response to your abilities and desired outcomes.
I have years of experience with creative writing, project proposals, and academic papers; I know it is important to have an editor with fresh eyes, and someone who cares about you finding your personal, creative voice. My background in liberal arts includes a BA in Design from UCLA and a three year degree in Metals from the Oregon College of Art and Craft. I was valedictorian of my high school - the York School - in California, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA. I enjoyed school, took classical piano lessons for 11 years, tango dance now, and believe that having a broad base of knowledge and abilities will help you to accomplish what you set out to do. I ended up working freelance on the stop-motion animated film, "Coraline," thanks to my jewelry, design, and metalsmithing skills.
I have been public speaking through my TED Fellowship, TED Senior Fellowship, and other venues for the past four years. Currently, I'm working to create coral restoration art/science sculptures in the ocean and an interdisciplinary, interactive art installation on land. For many years I taught art (jewelry, sculpture, mixed-media, drawing) and collaborative projects through schools and alternative educational spaces. Writing grants and proposals, biographies and blog posts is part of my every day. As a tutor, I look forward to helping you to succeed with your art and writing.
